Mine was also very noisy. I had a look under the car and found that if i moved the pump the noise stopped. Turned out that the rubber mounts had worn and the pump had tilted causing the noise.

The pumps also get more noisy as they wear so you may find you'll need to replace it soon.

is the noise like a whering sound. if so myn is making the noise realy loud. also my car when i accelerate loses power, the engine is still running but the car starts slowing down and will then gain power again and jump forward. could this be to do with the fuel pump????

Mine was noisy so and had a fuel problem so swapped it out, still had the noise and the problem....  The are noisy, when you twist the ignition once they start up...  Its a "reasuring"noise, get used to it!!!!

AAAAAAHHHHHHH, my fuel pump was noisy and it now does not make the noise and along with that the car will not start. Is there a relay I can change or is it fused(have not haynes yet and not owners manual. I am at my wits end with this car and I don't fancy paying nearly ?100 pounds for seeing as I have just bought a new clutch to fit to it.  :'(

Check the fuel relay switch in the fuse box, if its the same as mine under the passenger kick panel it will be the larger black relay on the top left of the fuse box, take that out and check the connections, if it's worn or it looks like it's burnt out try cleaning the connections and pop it back in as they can build up crap on them if the connection isn't true, if you turn your ignition on and you don't hear the whurring noise from the fuel pump then it's not going to start. My relay played up on me this weekend and VW wanted ?38 for a new one. You should also be able to hear the relay click. Good luck.  :)

two versions of the relay you can buy, a VW brand one or a Krapper one half the price. The krapper one is as the word says krap, the contacts have a thin protective coating and its tarnishes very quickly mine burnt out on the fusebox they tend to be noiser. If you can stretch to it get the VW original the contacts are alot more hard wearing, compare them next to each other you can easily tell.

If mine does need replacing I'm going to go for the VW genuine part, I know it's more but I had a non VW put in last year and it's playing up already  :(
