Title: Mk II 8v - no headlights
Post by: Dream Police on 15 July 2004, 07:27
Driving home last night was the first time in ages Ive needed to use my headlights, and the bloody things didnt work. I had side lights but no headlights, no main beam and no main beam warning light on the dash either.
Checked the fuses, all ok. Called the RAC out, when he arrived he said that there was no live getting to the headlight fuses so he suspected that the problem may be around the fuse box somewhere.
He ran a wire from the battery to the headlights so I could get home but now I have to get it fixed.
Any advice about where to start???

Is everything else working ? I.E. all the other stuff that sits on the auxillary feed [rear demister etc. ] .

If not try the ignition key barrell .

Its a bit reluctant to start sometimes as well, replaced the ignition switch but it made no difference.
Think there could be a link there????

Everything else seems ok, wipers etc.
Its just the headlights and the headlight main beam warning light that are playing up

Hi bud, I had a similar problem when i borrowed my old mans 8v, usual scene, dark, twisty roads, miles from home.
Lost Headlights.
Have you replaced the switch??
It was a faulty switch that caused my problem.
! scrapyard headlight switch later and all is light.
Hope yours is a simple, symptoms sound identical, even the lack of power to fuse etc..
