right my engine is making a really bad tapping noise now, educated guess would suggest the tappets (now what are they? where are they located? do they fail? :undecided:)
all input welcome!

Is the oil pressure OK and is it topped up?
No flashing lights on the dash?
-
tappets are little hydraulic dampers that fit between the cam and tops of the valves, they have a tiny hole that allows oil to fill up to give a damping effect. when the they give up which isnt uncommon they give off a tapping sound. If it hasnt had a oil change do it and use a good quality oil and give it a good flush. They arent a major job but not a 5 min one either.

thanks for that spunky, guess ill give it an oil change see if it changes anything.

Certainly worth a try as its far cheaper than having to take the head off etc.
Oh didnt somebody sy you can replace tappets without taking head off and removing valves? :undecided:

I think you can, i was under the impression it was cam out but you dont need the head off. If it need them replaced its an excuse for a cam belt if it hasnt had one. You will need all 8 replaced though! Only a few quid each i would of thought!
