Title: water, water everywhere!
Post by: cgb84 on 09 March 2009, 21:34
hi

i have a major water leak in my golf 16v 1994. first it started in the drivers footwell then after a heavy rainfall the whole car is now swimming, front and back. i have checked the sunroof run off but its all fine. the door seals look ok and all the usuall stuff. i heard that the mk2 let water in past the driver/passenger window due to shrinkage of the rubber seal, could this happen to mk3's??? did anyone else have this problem?

please help

Have you checked the drainage ducts under the bonnet?

as said check the drain holes (under the scuttle panel)..  these can clog up and when you get too much water this finds the ideal run off via the pollen filter straight into your car!!

Check the sunroof drains to see if they are blocked.

Beat me to it...

VW cleverly designed the floor to rust out by the grommets in both footwells to compensate for water ingress from sunroof drains etc.
