well, i picked it up on saturday, and drove it home...and didnt go near it till this morning due to being super busy, and came to work in it today, so the first proper drive as such.....
how does it stack up?
1/ hubs are rusty, i would imagine where it sat in a field for six months prior to my buying it..other than that, no other faults found so far.
2/ bearing in mind i climed out of an 05 E55 Amg into the r32...flame suit on....the ride is hard, it eats juice ( as bad as the e55 ) and it isnt that quick either.
that said, i actually like it!
its a good steer, very well built and quite nimble, and cool...a future classic i reckon.
so, do i need to mod it?
you betcha.
coilovers need to bring it down about 20mm,as i think springs will kill what little comfort there is...whats the general consensus as to whats best on the r32? used eiback pro street coilovers on my gti and they were very good..comfort is important to me , so thats the focus.
noise..i quite like the standard pipe, and am tempted to just change the centre pipe from the cat to the oem backbox ( i did this on my CSL using a supersprint item and it beefed it up quite a bit, without being boomy), also fancy some form of additional induction...whats best please ???
might widen the track 10mm each side at the front, and 15m a the rear, and get a haldex controller....good or bad idea?
dont want to go tooooo mad

It sounds like you have a plan of attack already
Topher will be along shortly to wax lyrical about the .:R with you
-
is it possible to add a turbo/supercharger to the R32? Now that would be bonkers.

it is indeed - think Topher was looking at such kits :lipsrsealed:

I could fill pages with different comparisons for the parts you're asking about so I'll just stick with what I consider to be the best available at the moment without being too stupidly priced.
Coilovers I'd go with the KW v2 set up, it'll give you some nice adjustability to try to keep the ride smooth.
Exhaust, ring both JBS and AwesomeGTI and ask them for their best offer price at the moment (mention the R32 owners club) on milltek exhausts. They're doing some amazing deals at the moment with free fitting - the exhaust note will still be familiar but to me the best advantage is how much better the larger tail pipes look.
Intake I'd have to say my favourite is the EVOMS intake. Not the cheapest but the quality and fitment is very good, it is kinda oem+ looking too unlike the offerings from VF etc. which just look like another induction kit.
Yeah there are some turbo/supercharger kits around, with a couple about to be released and some more in the pipeline. JBS are the guys to keep an eye on for that, other kits seemed more aimed at the american or german markets.

I take it your R32 has 0 miles or thereabouts... It feels and is very slow from new - I experienced this with both my Mk5 R32s. I don't even think you'ill get anywhere near the quoted 250bhp on a RR either - even 225bhp has been recorded on new R32s when put on a RR. However, give it 5k miles and it will become noticeably quicker and will keep on getting quicker for another 25-30k miles as the engine is run in/loosens up.

its done 70 miles. although i do about 400 a week so it wont be long then till it loosens up ( hopefully)
-
fuel consumption should also improve by about 30-35% aswell
-
hope so
-
^^^ Can vouch for that. It does feel noticably quicker now Im kicking on 25k miles. Economy is slightly better too.
-
I test drove an R32 with under 1k miles on it and then bought my one with 8k miles. The difference was unbelievable, 1k miles one felt dog slow compared to my one. Mine seemed to still be getting quicker right up to 20k miles so it just takes a bit of time.

just had a conversation with a friend of mine and he says drive it like i nicked it and it will loosen up in no time.
sounds like fun.
-
I wouldn't.. not with only 70 miles on it.

I know lots have their opinion on this.. but i did from new and it runs great and goes like stink

Apparently its the thing to do with modern engines. Reduces oil useage once run in

Not according to the VW Owners Handbook it isn't and it is quiet specific about why you should run your car in for the first 1000 miles or so... i.e. your engine life will be shortened and fuel efficiency lowered if the engine isn't run in. Its up to the owner of the car of course, but I know whose advice I'd trust given the choice between heeding the words of VW or online forum users.
-
Apparently a mate of a mate of mine allegedly said a bloke down the pub told him an old wise chinaman gave him some advice. It'll loosen up in time, and will last a whole lot longer if run in properly.

^^^^ you spend £20k on a prize possesion, im sure not only you will keep it clean and looking great, but same goes for the most expensive peice of it under the bonnet!!!. Look after it, the cars no good as an ornament with a blown engine!.
Follow the owners Handbook. Its for a reason. You choice if you wish to risk it, and go on people that havent followed the owners handbook at your own risk. Too much to risk in my oppinion for no gain what so ever!.

Depending on how long you want to keep it, If you change cars often then it wont matter as if anything does go wrong then you have got the warrenty to fall back on. Regardless of how you drive they cant refuse to fix something, right?
Be ccareful of the old bill if you do decide to drive it like you stole it though, dont want to be getting points now do we? or worse banned like me :(
5 days down 65 to go.
