Having spoken to various traders at Ultimate Dubs yesterday, Milltek have discontinued their system for the Mk2 Golf GTI. They still produce a 4 branch and downpipe, but that's it.
However, if there is enough demand, they will produce another batch to order.
Having had 2 Milltek systems in the past, i cant rate them highly enough. The fit and build quality is superb, the sound is just right, and they do genuinly make more power. They also look spot on, and fit the cut out in a big bumper a treat.
I really want one for my 16V, and could do with a few more interested people before I go to Milltek to see what they can do. Any one up for this?
-
Put me down for it. I had one of these systems on my 8v and it was fantastic - as you say just the right note and I could tell a difference when pulling. Now I have the 16v and Im trying all I can to get a little more power - one of these systems with the manifold could make a nice difference  Plus the back box on these looks just right, the tailpipes arent too big and if you want the car to look standard you can leave them off and it looks like an OEM exhaust
-
I'd like one as my exhaust is shagged and sounds awful now
-
What price are they?
-
The 2007 price list that I picked up at UD lists them at £326 + VAT for the system and £314 for the manifold.
If we could deal with them I hope they should be less than that for a reasonable order.
-
i am very tempted, i suppose its the same gains as a jettex/ scorpion of 6 - 10bhp, is there any pics of the system itself?
-
I havn't found any pictures yet.
Dont forget that any stated power increases are for the maximum gain somewhere in the rev range. A mod may give a 10bhp gain. but it might be at 3000rpm. So a claimed 10bhp exhaust on a 139bhp engine probably wont make 149bhp.
-
Nobody else?
Come on, there must be more demand than this.
-
Are these exhausts lighter in weight than the Jetex, which weighs a ton and a bit? Also does anyone have a picture of the tail pipes and I really hate the swept up ones? I might change to Milltek if they look OK and they fit my G60 OK. My Jetex is from a 16V and the fit is not perfect! :undecided:
One last question, what size is the bore?
-
I've spoken to Milltek today, and they have said that they will send me some archive pictures and specifications.
What I can tell you is that the tailpipe design is very similar to stock with twin 80mm tailpipes angled to the near side. I believe you can also have it without the tail trims so that it will look like a stainless OEM pipe.
They also said that they would need at least 15 definate orders to be able to put the system back into production.

This is how it 'hangs out the back'

To say I'm pleased is a bit of an understatement, it fills the cavity a treat, and hopefully will sound nice along with the 4 branch.
Or you can remove the tailpipe tips and have a completely standard looking backbox
-
I have a miltek back box sitting right by my feet if anyones interested?

Was going to hang on to it as a spare but i dont think i will ever use it now as the miltek system thats already on the car will probably out live it, thats how good they are imo!
-

im sure that if you get a handful of people on board to buy the system miltek wont say no, it is the 'recession' afterall! :afro:
-
Or if you went in with an order for 16, but only 5 people actually bought!! (Did I type that out loud?)
-
bump!!!!!!!!
-
haven't you got an order yet? I still have a back box open to (sensible) offers.

just wanted to check is your backbox for 16v?
-
Yes
-
doh... thought so, I drive an 8v lol. thanks anyway
-
I will definately place an order.... so there's one!
-
yeah me too
if there available for 8V :)
pm me if they need a deposit :)
but probably need postage to holland but i could collect :)

i have a year old, but perfectly mint milltek full system for the mk2 8v golf. it fits perfectly.
reason for sale is im going custom from pipeworks. i want a straight 2". the milltek goes from 2" to over 2.25" after the first silencer. it was perfect on my std 8v engine. but after the 2.0 block, big valve head, silly cam'd engine that im now running, that breaths a hell of a lot more, its just a little bit too noisy for me as its a daily as i drive alot.
don't get me wrong, it's by no means chav loud, but i drive to lancaster from derby alot. and it just gets a litttle overkill sometimes. however on half throttle its silent. its just when you put your foot down it makes itself known! but not over the top.
performance wise. i think it was evo mag which did a feature on aftermarket exhausts. out of all the brands, milltek was the only one which gained power. and for my golf, i put a new std 8v vw exhaust on the car. it was beautifully quiet, but really reigned the power in. it just wouldnt rev in high gears, and really slowed the car down. but that was with my engine.
pm for details
the main cgti site has been trying to get a group buy through tsr on making up some mk2 tall block manifolds from milltek. its been going on for months now, but still no light at the end of the tunnell.
-
So thats 5 orders so far.
Come on everybody, surely there's more of you that would want a new quality exhaust?
-
for £200
check the classifieds lads
-
For that sort of money you can get a full stainless custom jobbie with your choice of tail pipe...probably easier than trying to sort 15 definates. Heres the pipes on my new system :)

custom, a decent custom, ie what im going to be paying from pipeworks is circa £370. there the only ones, along with longlife id trust.
however milltek make exhausts for 911's rs4's, r8's, r32's m5, m3.
i dont think any owners of those cars will be going to their local powerflow dealers :)
-
i personally wouldn't trust powerflow to make an exhaust for a petrol lawnmower !!!!
i had one for my RS turbo and it sounded ok for about a week!!
the welds wern't stainless and they looked like they were welded by a child!!!
the boxes were so cheep one day after giving it a little bit the rear box was ON FIRE !! inside , burning my rear bumper off
when i went back they told me it was my fault and i had invalidated the waranty by changing the engine to a tuned one !!!
-
some of their franchises are supposed to be good
-
sorry chaps i cant afford this currently but would love one
-
My exhaust has just dropped to bits. I was going to buy this one: http://www.speedbox.co.uk/products/product_list.html?model=3287;type=jetex_aluminised_system
Seems like good value.
-
Thats a fair price! Buy it and let us know what it's like?

I am having no end of problems with mine. It is also extremely heavy. What are you guys using to hang it?

Mine eats rubber mounts, so its got a cable tie round it too, to hold it together.

Cable tie and poly mounts for mine
-
I tried the ti-wraps but the jubilee clip sounds like a plan.
-
mine was rattling on the rear beam too
2 hose clips later and it's stopped :)
-
Hi all,
Just a warning not to buy cheap rubber ones from ebay, they're not even rubber! mine gave out in 3 months!
Jubilee clips work a treat if you cut a lenght of rubber hose (gas hose or similar) split it down the side and wrap it around the clip.
Havent had to do this on the Mk2 yet but worked a treat on one of my volvo's......
cheers

Went to the exhaust place today and the chap said he will be able to do something with the sheds exhaust. He is going to replace the cat with a by-pass tube the same diameter as the rest of the system, and so do away with the reducer. This should bring the system forward a little and re-align the hangers. He will then weld on additional hooks to the exhaust to give it more support and hang the thing higher with poly rings instead of the rubbers. I'm off to Spain next weekend so the following weekend is 'D-day'. Hopefully it should be good for the following weekends' meet near Oxford.
-
That sounds great! Is it a national specialist or local? Also, how much did he quote if you dont mind me asking?
-
The tube he is going to manufacture on site, complete with the lambda mount and thats going to be about 75 quid. The rest is just time and he thought an hour should do it. 50 an hour though, so it had better be a decent job! He seemed to know what he was talking about. Mike Stokes Motorsport in Moordown, Bournemouth.
-
i had a jetex 2.0" fitted friday. its certainly alot quieter than the milltek. but it doesnt pull as well in higher revs. negligable though. a customer from the garage even took my milltek for the asking price  good times
fitting seems good. i just really dislike the 2 80mm massive pipes. im sure a custom place could sort that out for me
-
Well apparently www.eurocarperformance.co.uk have milltek's in stock for mk2's? Check it out guys?
-
You mean http://www.europerformance.co.uk/ ?
-

Yes that's the one. False alarm anyway, just gave them a call and they apologised for not updating their web site. As i thought really.

I've spent all night hanging the frigging jetex exhaust. Too tired for complex words so...
1) Its about 20% heavier than the standard system, although my "standard system" was a tinny non-vw item (hence why it fell to bits).
2) Build quality seems very good, although the black coating on the exhaust comes off very easily.
3) Jubilee clips used on all but one of the hanging points. It sits nicely, but I'm concerned that the clips will shorten its lifespan as it can't "bounce" with the bumps??? (advice?)
4) The rear hanging point is a bit sh!t - if I used the included rubber the exhaust would be hanging very low down. Mine seemed to naturally sit at the right height anyway so I used a tight jubilee clip.
5) The drive is alot more responsive now.
6) The noise is perfect. No louder than the previous system really. A nice grumble at idle and no noticeable extreme of noise at the top end.
-
My rear hanger has dropped off so i use a big fat zip tie and a poly rubber atm. I have found this to be more effective than i thought it would be (touch wood) so far 3 months and no problems. Checked it recently and no stretching of the ties as i thought may happen. For sure it's gonna perish at some point but i keep a couple of spares in the boot just in case. Ghetto? Dont really think so, just a cheap effective fix with no rear beam knocking.

Is yours a 2.5" system with an adapter for the downpipe?
I'm really not having much luck with mine...........

Yep. Didn't think I would need the adapter on a 16v but it was needed.
Took me over 3 hours to get the old one off and fit the new one mind.
-
milltek do use a higher grade of stainless. T304 i think.the milltek is half the weight of the jetex. did you use the rear hanger which jetex included? mine sits perfetly. i just hate the tailpipe design. would look much more appropriate on a 1.2 corsa
-
Did you use the rear hanger which jetex included?
.... Good point.
-
mine is the 2" and fits perfectly. as soon as c&r has the chain reinforced hangers in, il be fitting the front are rear ones.
no issues after that as they physically cant move
