Title: Your latest Member - defecting from the french scene

Hi everyone.

Been browsing the board for a couple of weeks now to get a feel for the place and it seems great.

My names Tom, located on the south coast and looking to move over from unreliable french motors to the cool clean lines (and reliable) germans.  Just saving up to purchase a decent condition 1.8t mkIV.

Car ownership to date:

52 plate clio 1.2 16v - custom front bumper side skirts and big stereo - written off by a mate!
C Plate Mini Mayfair - wide arch 13 * 7 alloys etc - engine died
E Plate renault 5 GT Turbo - turned into a money pit, 2 engine rebuilds -  4 head gaskets, i even got through 3 fuel pumps in my 2 years of ownership.  Never had it dyno'd but I had changed everything bar the manifold and she pulled like ho

I'm hoping the golf gti 1.8t can prove as much fun when its tuned up, although i aim to keep things a bit calmer in the golf and so keep it usable on a daily basis - the 5 was not reliable!!

Any way i'll be looking for lots of good advice and tips in the coming months!
