Title: Newby with a question

OK, for the last X number years I've been after a Golf GTI, I'm thirty  something and always wanted one as a teenager but could never find the money firstly to buy one and secondly to insure it...

However with age and work comes the ability to do both  :smiley:

so I've managed to get my paws on one (Picked it up last night actually) now here comes the first question (of many I'm sure)

It's a 1986 convertible 1800cc, am I correct in understanding VW never actually made a MKII convertible ?  It surely looks like a MKI but just wanted to make sure.

The shell is in mint condition (no rust around the lower windscreen areas at all), with just rust in the usual lower door places, and the interior is in need of a revamp.

Can anybody confirm if it's a Mark I or Mark II please ?

never a MK2 shape one no, just a facelift towards the end of production with the 'clipper' kit and a different front grille :)
