Title: handling of mk 3 2.o gti

hi,
i have a problem with the back end now and then just jumping out when driving straight or around a corner feels like a gust wind hits the back end and kicks it out  for a few secs can anyone help

A bag of cement in the boot should keep it nailed down well enough.

check the rear shocks they could have lost there damping

Meh, yours would need two bags of cement, to even out the boat anchor in the front.

Coilovers are not a solution to knackered OEM struts.  They are only something else.  They are unlikely to improve the handling over and above good OEM (standard) kit unless you spend over £500 and get the car set up properly.

Ben's answer is the best on here so far.  The original poster has given everyone so little to go on he's unlikely to get any properly useful answers.  More description needed.  Maybe he should bend his legs and have a look at the condition of the car underneath - what do the rubber bushes look like? Is there any fluid leaking out of the dampers?  Is the bias valve damp with fluid? etc etc.

just put 2 new tyres on rear 205 50 v 15 the old ones had steps in the tread on the inside edge hopefull this has solved my prob only had the car 8 weeks so dont know recent history but all shocks seem fine and axle bushes had em all checked today but if the prob continues will be next on the list cheers all

My guess is back axle bushes, could look fine but be soft and naff. Nothing worse than a naff bush!!

very true think thats my next port of call this weekend drop out the axle and replace the bushes

Mine felt exactly the same, was the rear shocks that had gone.

Got a Bilstein lowering kit from Euro Car Parts (didnt want to drop it too low) and it sorted out the problem. Feels great now.
