New N75 valve
the joys of motoring eh

What triggered you to notice these things needed replacing?
-

well my temp gauge went to 90 and back so going to swap both the sensor and thermostat plus my MPG has been shocking recently
did some data logging with Steve last weekend d we have the same problem
a new N75 valve has cured his problem so it should cure mine

ordered the parts today
got the temp sensor and thermostat already :afro:
N75 valve will be in on Wednesday - fitting Thursday, Chav smoking will hopefully recommence on Friday

well it appears to have sorted Steve's out so i'm hoping it will have the same positive effect on mine  though i think a combination of all 3 will do it some good.
Best do otherwise i''ll have wasted £70!!

It's weird how a thermostat can affect MPG, Chrysler was better after the change.
-
Well if the engine is running cooler it will burn more fuel. Just like it does when you begin your journey ;)
-
hopefully this little bugger will help restore some performance

My coolant temp sensor arrived yesterday :)
-
My coolant temp sensor arrived yesterday :)
had mine Monday  along with the thermostat
and Ben @ R-Tech has posted my pancake pipe so with a bit of luck that might getted tomorrow too
-
Lot smaller than I thought, the sensor!
-
Lot smaller than I thought, the sensor!
its more of a valve than a sensor - it controls the actuator on my turbo and adjusts the position of the vanes :nerd:
-
Ehm...... yeah
-
why haven't you fitted it yet, only takes 5 mins
-

cos my car is in work

No excuse
-
No excuse
it is as i've been up since 4am, travelled to Manchester and back for a 30 minute meeting and there was no way i was going into work!
-
oky doke
New pancake pipe fitted - need to check clamps in the morning as it sounds like air is leaking from around them
New N75 valve fitted
New coolant temp sensor fitted
Didn't have time to change the thermostat but the temp gauge sits bang on 90 and she got up to temp a little quicker than before
Net result - same as before........... although she does seem to pull hard after 2500rpm........so i doubt i've got a boost leak :undecided:
-
sh!t mate, back to the drawing board
-
We'll get it sorted mate :)
-
Damn! That's very annoying!
-
Damn! That's very annoying!
Not half!! lol
at least my temp gauge seems to work tidy now and i fitted my anni valence so not a wasted evening

INJECTORS?????
need upgraded ones maybe :undecided:

INJECTORS?????
need upgraded ones maybe :undecided:
But (and bear in mind I know nothing about injectors) would they struggle beofre 2500 RPM and then be fine after :S
-
Damm whats next to try bud?
-
INJECTORS?????
need upgraded ones maybe :undecided:
But (and bear in mind I know nothing about injectors) would they struggle beofre 2500 RPM and then be fine after :S
standard injectors are apparently good for 220bhp from the reading i've done - perhaps its possible they aren't opening up fully under load :undecided:
unplugged my MAF and took it for a drive - performance was crap so it isn't that although it didn't stall and i didn't have a lumpy idle which i was expecting :undecided:
i'm pretty sure i've got a boost leak as you can hear the air rushing as the turbo spools, lots of black smoke but then it clears and away i go :undecided: had a bit of a poke under the car but need to jack it up which i hope to do later today
i'm fecking stumped to be honest

dont tell all the ladies you have a stumpy
the injectors could be sticking at low down revs and then getting forced open at higher revs thus why there ok after 2500 :undecided:

UPDATE
big thanks to Dai-Cymru (again!)
solved my boost leak - guess i'll never learn from past mistakes - forgot to swap the o-rings off the old pipe onto the new Forge Pipe :embarassed:
so boost leak solved BUT possibly another even larger problem spotted - oil in the intercooler
that normally means that a seal is going somewhere and the likely candidate - TURBO
i'm starting to give up to be honest - if my turbo goes it will be a standard one going on - i'm not going to chase more power as i can't be doing with the pitfalls it leads too
-

You think the mods may have killed the turbo? still got that vibration then?

You think the mods may have killed the turbo? still got that vibration then?
its a possibility - engine has done nearly 100K and its run the last 18K at much higher boost levels
still got the vibration but the power band it is in appears to be less :undecided: need to run it for a few days and see how we go
at this point in time i'm pretty gutted to say the least

well i've found this thread
http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/246330/1594620.aspx#1594620
and after speaking to Mr Dave it sounds like i've over-reacted a little bit - there wasn't huge amounts of oil in the intercooler
just going to keep an eye on it and possibly get the intercooler cleaned out
-
dunno if you've got access to any but I cleaned my new intercooler out with acetone, worked a treat
I wouldn't worry about a bit of oil in the intercooler, the 1.8T seems to keep the oil rather than burning it off like most turbod cars I've owned/worked on. You'd know about it if the seals/bearings go, I filled up a field with smoke when mine went
-
Just fitted my coolant temp sensor, WHAT A BLOODY PALAVA!!

pull out old sensor
stick in new sensor
then connect the plug
took 5 minutes!

yeah for a change - MPG seems to be back to normalish too
whether or not i got used to drving that sh!tty old Saab i don't know but the derv definietly feels much improved and i reckon 95% there :afro:
now where did i put that Stage 2 turbo.........

I couldn't get the clip to go back in above the sensor to stop it popping straight out. Took about 10 minutes!

must be different to yours then - the clip pulls DOWN on mine - was able to refit the sensor and then refit the clip - sensor stayed put

I was actually surprised at how little smoke your car kicked out on the rollers last time
