Title: stalks
Post by: Jay4424 on 05 March 2009, 10:32
hi, just got my Mk2 GTI 8V

and was wondering if the stalks shouldn't be the same as my Mk2 Scirocco... long and thin, the ones that are one look fat as if they should be on a Mk3! ...also the dash switches are looking too late to be right, they rock up and down and its the the rounded full type, again, I'd have thought it tyhey would be more like the scirocco ones, small, sharp edged.

...sorry if this post makes no sence ...I'm getting a feelign of dayjavue... if I've already posted this please ignor!!!

Cheers, Jay.

mk2 dash, switches are different to rocco, and the stalks will be thin or chunky depending on the year (just like the MK2 scirocco in fact)

Heres my dash, but ignore stalks as they're MK3 items

if its a 90spec golf (hazard on column) then they wont fit, pre-90 with hazard switch on the dash then they will :)
the surround might need a little trimming but thats about it.

yeah that cd holder is one of my prised possesions, got it before everyone relised how 'rare' they are. someone selling one on ebay for over £100

Some other nice bits I spy too. Electric mirrors. Are they heated? and an adjustable steering column

+1. How did you do that?

Whats the switch/knob you've got above the headlight switch - is it headlight height adjustment?

I got them from germany ageeeees ago for myself and also picked up a set for john as i needed the loom, but he had only the loom, so a bit of trading later.. and i still never fitted mine after over a year yet he was straight on it

yep mirrors are heated too, corrado 1 touch windows, electric headlight adjust, column height adjust, I am an options collector
even have a corrado 4 speed heater fan loom wired in, thats a rado knob on there as well.

hornpush came with the wheel (mountey) the push looks like it was nicked off something as you can see a small pry mark, its probably a wheel centre cap?

height adjust column is out of a SEAT biza, Toledo one will do you as well.  I didnt fit the proper tilt surrouynd as its massive and looks ugly, took a bit of effort to get the tilt handle to fit but got it in eventually!  OEM they have a big rectangle piece, you chop a large section of the dash out & glue it in, then a larker stalk surround with a flappy bit is fitted.
