Title: engine swap
Post by: carrie on 12 July 2004, 17:41
my sister was offered a mk2 16v engine for her golf would it be easy to fit?
if not how hard would it be to fit to my cab can i just bolt it onto the original 8v gearbox?

Engine will bolt to your g/box, use 16v clutch p plate and 8v centre. Engine will mount on 8v mounts, exhaust d pipe will need fabricating or buy a conversion one. Fuel system is on the other side, use a 16v rocco inlet or move fuel to the o/s.
Steve.

thanks mk1
i take thats the fuel pipe that needs moving?
so basically all i need to do is move fuel pipe and new exhaust, is this right?

Opinions now seem to be that a 16v conversion is not the way to go on an 8v. For the trouble and expense it costs to get it done right ( and a lot of conversions, apparently, aren't all that good) you would be better of tuning the 8v.

it was an idea, i was offered it but on reflection my engine seems strong.
will probably just re-work head instead.

a 2 litre bottom end will add more torque into the mix too. As Adam said in the Golf+ there's a great article on tuning the 8v :)
