Title: Starting/Cutting out (Possible immobiliser) problem
Post by: admc6 on 04 March 2009, 11:54
Hi All,

As some of you may have read recently, I've been having a few starting problems with my '96 8v GTI.
Unfortunately this has progressed. It now seems to be cutting out on me. Just going to list whats been happening;
- Car had intermittent starting problem. Didnt seem to matter if it was hot or cold, wet or dry.
- Spoke to the VW spcialist i take it to for some advice. He mentioned usual culprets, relay coil, ignition swith etc. Sugested wiggleing key when it was struggleing, to see of it kicked in.
- Wouldnt start on morning so wiggled key but nothing happened
- Thoughted i'd try taking key out and turning round and trying again. YAY...It fired up first time, but was this just blind luck. Must test again.
- Again coming home from work it didnt want to know, try turing the key round and again started up. I thought i was getting somewhere.
- Went to play football last night and all was working fine, well that was untill i got to my mates house. he got out closed the door and it cut out on me (the first time this has happend since this problem started).
- Tried starting it, didnt want to go
- My friend mentioned the immobiliser, so we reset it using the docking bay in the glove box, waiting 30 secs, locked and unlocked the car and hey presto it worked.
- Didnt last long, got to my first junction and it cut out again.
-Tried the alarm trick, didnt go.
- Eventually got it running, lifted the bonnet turned the alarm buzzer off, closed the bonnet and for some reason it cut out again.
- Cut out once more before i got home and thats where it still sits.

Has anyone had any problems with their logic 900? If so what ones?
Is there any way to disable it so i can rule it out as an issue?
Any ideas?

many thanks

Just a quick update:
just tried the car before. It started fine and was running ok. After a couple of mins i though ii'd switch it off and turn key round. Didnt start and then turned it back and still didnt start.
very funny how it can run for a min or two then stop and not fire up.

Hopefully it will happen again later so i can test the ecu relay, fuel relay and the coil.
