Hey guys, my doors are a bit strange.
I got a new alarm fitted the other day but the doors only unlock when in valet mode. To get around this, Ken (Troublestarter on here) had to set the alarm to give 2 pulses to unlock it. This means there is a delay which is annoying
Ken said that as there is signal getting to the central locking pump on the first pulse, it isnt the alarm that is faulty. Basically I think I need to replace my central locking pump and there is something in the drivers door that can fail and cause this aswell?
Any ideas/part numbers for the drivers door central locking thing and the pump thats in the boot?
Cheers!

i carnt see it being the central locking pump if it opens on the second signal! as far as i can remeber theres one signal wire going into the pump to open and close the doors. Maybe the signal is not stayin on long enough or not enough voltage/current, check that your going into the circuit at the correct point also. Maybe you need to find out whats different between the first pulse and second pulse, and the valet mode. If your doors open and close by your key in the door it carnt be the pump!?
-
I dont have any locks on the door
I cant see what it could be other than the pump  We tested the signal getting to the pump and its there on the first signal.
Plus my doors unlock really slowly and have done sinse I got the car. Not sure if its just a mk3 thing but compared to my mums car it takes about 2 seconds longer.
-
Thats just cus its using like an air system to unlock it, so it makes a horrible noise and takes ages.
I think most modern cars use like some electric system that takes 0.00001 seconds to unlock.
Mk3 is hardly a get away car lol
-
Yer it doesnt take ages in that way though, just nothing happens the first time :undecided:
-
One of the alarm install docs for the mk3 golfs specifies that the system is double pulse on unlock.

This could be your problem
Have you checked for leaks - you can take the hose off the pump and suck / blow to test it. You will probably feel a leak if there is one in the air lines....
-
Oh right, seems strange as it was fine with the old alarm most of the time. Ill do the suck/blow test (ooh err) and see. This morning it unlocked first time too  and also the window seems to go down when i unlock it but didnt this morning.
Been assured its not the alarm but seems a bit odd how its behaving to me :undecided:

Think you should take it back to where you got the new alarm system fitted and make them sort it!
-
I got it fitted by my mate who has his own company :) Knows what he's doing though so it might just be my car :undecided:

He aint stupid. lol

Our central locking takes a while to unlock.

Who? Me or Ken?
Ken said its something to do with the car
-
But surely if it was working before new instal and now you have problems then, simple logic says take it back! Maybe they f*cked something during instal?
-
Yer suppose so, it did have a few dodgy moments before though.
Nothing was touched during the install really, just plugged into existing wires and I watched him wire it all in :undecided:
Think he's gonna have a look at it for me tomorrow :)
-
Ken is a decent chap and I'm sure he'll sort it for you..
I honestly can't see it being something he's done cus he's good at his job, or so I've heard.
I need to speak to you on msn later btw.
-
Oh do ya  ill be on there from about 5 till 11 tonight, not going out so will just be a case of whenever I check my comp :)
-
dec run it round to me tomorrow at around 4pm and i will plug it into my cliffnet
as explained by dec the alarm gives out a long enough pulse first time but the pump does not always activate first time even when pulsing the unlock wire directly at the pump it with a 12v positive supply it still does not work first time so it is NOT the alarm output causing the problem
we also swapped the lock and unlock wires round and it gave out the correct double unlock pulse from the alarm and the doors unlocked first time everytime so definitely not the alarm
and dec saw this me do this and proved beyond all possible doubt that it is the alarm causing the issue
but as i said i will have another look tomorrow for him
cheers
ken

Yer sorry man I wasnt blaming you but bryn said about something to do with the central locking in the drivers door so wondered if anyone knew anything about that :undecided:
Will be back from work about half 4 tomorrow mate :)
Cheers!
-
i know you were not blaming me but as i said remember when i swapped the lock and unlock wires round the unlock side of the alarm worked perfectly remember when disarming it it locked and arming unlocked
as this proved the alarm was working correctly
as for the drivers door yes if it was a mk2 then i could understand but mk3's have multipoint central locking meaning the lock and unlock wires can be found in more than one place without having to go directly to the drivers door
