Title: Genuine Sellers List?
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 03 March 2009, 15:40
With what's been going on recently in the classified section, might be worth having a stickied thread in the Classified section with a list of people on the forum who have sold something/s and the buyer received them (ie not being scammed or having problems or something similar).

It's just an idea, I know I'd personally like to have a reference of people who are genuine before I buy, then whenever someone new sells something, they can be added to the list as well.

What do people think? If maintaining it is a problem I don't mind helping :)

Tbh, i'd say you can normally tell if someone is genuine enough by just getting in touch with them beforehand.

I'm not saying it's right or excusable for someone to scam you out of money, but it seems that 99% of the time the buyer just doesn't do enough research and happily sends the money without asking questions, people just need to be careful and remember that it's not hard to be done over on the internet

Bad people should always be named and shamed.

yeah but posting/payment issues can occur.. ... like the link shep's posted, DH seems a sound guy and I can only guess there's some problem rather than him ripping someone off..... No doubt he would be named and shamed in that type of thread (very most likely incorrectly!!) and everyone else seems to of recieved the other things he was selling..with no issue

You should not be able to post in the classifieds till you have say 200 posts, therefor you would be commited.

Or maybe until you have been a member for so many days/months.

I duno, ideas.

they're trying that idea over on ukmkivs and it seems to be hit and miss

need 50 posts before you can VIEW them

think its 100 before you can place your ad up  :undecided:

Personally I think we need something. The idea of a certain amount of posts would be good.

Viewing should be at 0 posts, as everyone can send money to a trusted member to buy really.

Its a lot easier for a dodgy seller to shut up shop and run after they have been named and shamed. Then create another account.

Would it be better if a user had some sort of counter next to their name for selling items that the buyer is happy with.

Sort of like feedback?  But then, I suppose everyone is going to have to start off at 0.  So buyers might be reluctant to buy, so sellers might find it hard.

Not really explained myself well.

The Vectra owners club have a rule where you have to be a member for more than 30 days plus 100 posts before you can seel an item they also have a trader feedback system.

I buy and sell and always supply my details and phone number if needed or asked for.

The only thing I would add is that a lot of people myself included have full time jobs so we might not be able to post straight away, I aim to post within 2 days of receiving cleared or paypal funds.

No matter what measures we put in place, someone somewhere with enough determination will get around them. One of the chaps on here people are having trouble with has been registered for ages and has something like 200 posts. People get done over on ebay all the time by people with lots of feedback.

Just take care when buying stuff. It's all too easy just to paypal someone some dollah these days without getting proper contact info first.

Need to put these things in perspective. The volume of successful trade done on here must be crazy. Buyer beware, check out who you are buying from etc etc. As toph says, whatever rules would be got around and in a way users would have perhaps excessive confidence in a seller if the requirements of posting sales on here was high.

I still think about spinning off the classifieds section into something else entirely that does have feedback ratings a-la ebay. Then I think what an utter waste of time as I would spend all day dealing with emails about 'bad sales'.

i personally wouldn't buy from someone with less than 100 posts same with e bay im wary if they aint got more than 50 or so feedback  :undecided: but unfortunatly there are these people willing to take money off trusting members.

ive been done on ebay by people with lots of feedback, its counter productive to get into an argument as it affects your score and you never get your stuff, sometimes you just have to take the risk if you want something

i agree with the post count and time thing - need to have been a member for so many days and have like 100 posts. yeah they can get around it, but its better than having nothing!!

although it will reduce the amount of items for sale, so i dont know :undecided:

but if that item comes up that you have been looking for ages and the price is right, you will probs take the risk.........
