What do you guys think,
would you do it yourself or pay a body shop to do this? I havent rang a bodyshop as yet but when i get round to it going to find out how much it would cost to blend and spray the front and rear valances
-
lol good question
i've bought a new valence but its going satin black so i'm going to have a go myself
colour coding i'd be tempted to give it a go myself - worse case scenario you get a bodyshop to sort it out lol
-
I fancy having a go, but as my front bumper needs re-spraying, I am going to ask the bodyshop to do it. I haven't really got the time or space to give it the treatment it deserves.
-
personally i wouldnt bother doing it yourslef as the valances arent smooth like the bumpers, they're kind of textured? which means a lot of messing about smoothing the plastic.....also, if its done badly/wrong it will peel off. (this is what my mate who sprays bentleys etc told me)
wont cost much more than £100 i wouldnt have thought :undecided:, but then i dont really have a clue as my mate did mine for beer tokens.
hope that helps

ahhh always helps having a mate like that, well ill give a bodyshop a call and see how much they want to spray and blend :wink:just make sthe front and rear bumper look more complete IMO
-
hehe i've got one already primered :smug:
-
if you're going to get them blended you'll probably have to add about £200-£250 :undecided: extra maybe as the whole bumper will need spraying then, it makes the car look so much better IMO and it looks lower too which is a bonus
if it was already prepped like rhysos i'd give it a go.....but then i would also say its harder to match your red than indigo blue?
Rich

well I just rang the bodyshop lol to find out prices,
they basically said,
If i wanted them to just spray over the textured plastic £70 for each valance or to have it smoothed £100 for each which isnt bad at all tbh, did ask the guy about having the valances smoothed into the bumper and he said they can do it but if you were to catch teh bumper for example you would have to have it all red done which is a valid point!
Also to have the roof done black £120  I wonder how much bonus im getting at the end of march?

who said i was matching
i had a quote from VW a few months back to respray my rear bumper, remove a few scuffs and that was less than £200 so can't see a bodyshop charging much :undecided:
EDIT - just seen Stink's reply
-
actually mate you just raised a good point! Ive got a couple of little chips out of the shelf where i helped my mate move house! stupid desk, will ask them abotu sortign that out, but the guy was sound on the phone, same guy i rang about the rub strips and my mate uses them as well so ive seen the work they done on his Skyline GTR good stuff
-
Smoothed mine myself to take the ripples out, an hour with sand paper and elbow grease. Couple coats of plastic primer, flat down, then two pack and lacquer. About 3 - 4 hours in total but I had access to all the proper kit. It's only a valance, it's gonna get bashed anyway.. go for it.
-
yeah and tbh I think it smoothed in instead of that line going around the bottom looks alot slicker
havent smashed them to buggery yet! lol
-
black roof on ur car stink will look the nuts imo
-
yeah cant wait to get it done, jsut need to get my cambelt/waterpump done and find out whats wrong with mysteerign then can go ahead
-
the bumps/texured bits wont need rubbing all out if you use a good quality high build primer, just rub it down enough to give it a good 'key'.
-
You getting the roof sprayed black or vinyling?
-
Stink, if I had your car I'd be snapping those red Anni valances up from the classifieds! :)

mate i saw that wen i was at band practise browsing on my phone!! sen the guy a pm just knwo i really hope i can do a deal with him and get them would save me spraying my standard ones and the anni ones would be awsome thanks for the heads up as i would prob of missed them
pure luck they are in Tornado red like my golf, fingers crossed!
-
I actually think spraying th eroof black on your red car will look pants, just my opinion though. Your car and paintwork looks mint, think it would be a shame to spoil it, plus back shows all the pollun and other crud up, i should know hehe.
-
Im going to agree with dobber - I love the black bits of detail yo have added Stink, but I think the roof might be a step too far. Just my opinion of course.
-
Thas cool guys, everyone has different view on it tbh, Ive seen a few red golfs with a black roof and personally really like it. But thats the thing with mods some like it some dont
