My mk2 driver is having a few issue's at the moment. It sometimes cuts out at junctions (at low revs). I then have problems starting it, after around 5 minutes it will start again but i have to keep the revs up or it will stall. I've had the problem before, got a new battery and alternator and all seemed fine for about 1 month, now the problem has started again.
Could it be i need a new starter motor?
Any advice would be helpful.

If you had the alternator changed a month ago, make sure that the belt has enough tension on it. this is what happened to my mates driver not so long ago, it didnt squeek either all it needed was tightening. And make sure there isnt a slight air leek anywhere too, with the engine running use your finger to try and feel/listen for a leek.

does the engien turn over on the starter and just not fire?

If its cutting out - then you need to see why, either no fuel/spark.
If you starter turns the engine and doesn't go (ala DPB ;) ) grrrrrrrrrrrrnnn, then its fine.
When cranking do you get a strong smell of fuel or not?
Check the leads, rotor, dizzy - mine used to do the same thing at traffic lights about a year ago, new leads and I was fine. They're were parp and just caused it to mis-spark, so it would stall and flood the engine, then when cranking - it wouldn't fire because it was partly flooded. Left it for 3 mins and it fired right up.
