Title: Shall I, or ShalI I not?
Post by: cupraowner on 02 March 2009, 19:48
Hi guys,

I'm currently in two minds about my alloy wheels situation - and was wondering if someone could put some constrictive logic behind the problem.  I currently have 17" Monza II's on my MK5 GTI - but have found some real nice 18"s for just over £250 - without tyres.  Here's the problem: My current wheels need new tyres, which are waiting at the garage for me. so, do i a) buy the 18's - ask my tyre guy to get me larger tyres and then sell the 17's on ebay without tyres? or b) leave the tyres for my 17's until i have a buyer - sell them WITHOUT tyres and then just get my tyre guy to find me some to fit the 18's ? Will I be able to sell the 17's on ebay, without tyres? does anyone have any weight and dimensions info on the 17's - so I can have them priced up, if i were to ship them.

thanks in advance for any advice.

I would personally go for the 18's and sell the 17s without any tires. You wont see your money back for the tires you put on the 17s.

Monza I's are the 17s and Monza II's are the 18s aint they?

x2

Tyres on the rims are a fair bit larger than just the bare rims.  On the flipside though, the tyres mounted on the alloys will actually help to protect the rim edges.  But the 17" Monzas are just a laqured grey paint, so not hard to touch up.

yes, sorry - Monza 1's - how much can I expect for the wheels? 2 are perfectly normal; front driver side has the slightest of curb mark; passenger side alloy looks like it's dropped down a curb (previous owner) and has a 2.5-3.0inch mark down one 'blade'.  I'd be happy with £180 -£200 for them. lower? higher?

Dunno on prices - not my thang.  But put an add in the classifieds section of this forum, and try your luck.  Saves p!ssing around with FleaBay.
