Title: What would cause a brief loss of power?

Hi guys

Yesterday when i was taking off ther was a loss of power for about 2 seconds when i put it into second gear. Can somebody tell me as to what would cause this? ( 2001 2.0 Gti)

fuel filter and electrical fault could be all sorts mate does it do it still?

No it just did it the once. Hopefully just a one off !

Update: It has now done it again. This time the engine light has come on  :undecided:. I havent drove it since. Should i avoid driving until i get it checked out ?

if the engine light came on you should get it hooked up to vagcom.

I plugged my laptop into it using a cheap cable i got off ebay. It said the following:

Stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes

P0303 – Cylinder 3 misfire detected

Pending diagnostic trouble codes detected during current or last completed driving cycle

P0140 – Oxegen sensor circuit no activity detected ( Bank 1 Sensor 2)


I dont know much about cars. A cylinder misfiring doesnt sound good, Is this a dear repair?? :undecided:

But the easiest and first port of call for the misfire would be to check and/or replace the spark plugs.  The fundamentals often get overlooked.  :wink:

Thanks for the advice guys. Got a mechanic to have a luk at it. He hooked it up to his computer and got the same result i did with my £10 cable, and charged me £20!lol He was going to change the spark plugs but said the ones in it are practically new! He said to drive away at it and itl do no harm. However i want to fix it so i am going to have a go at replacing the lambda sensor. Is this a big job??

But are your plugs the correct spec?  It isn't any good them being new if they are the wrong ones!  :wink:

The lambda sensors can be a barsteward.  Get yourself a couple of cans of PlusGas (don't bother with using WD40 as a penetrant lube - it just ain't good enough on exhausts), and give the lambda regular sqiurts over a 24 hour period.  And ideally, beg/steal/borrow the correct sleeved socket.  And get some band aid (for patching up your knuckles).  :evil:

The plugs were in it since i got the car (which was a few months ago) but the problem only started now. The car is driving fine now but im going to replace the post lambda to prvent future problems. Just bought the sensor from ebay for £15 delivered  :smiley: Just need to get the proper socket now.

id start by checking akl the earths, sounds like a crap connection someone
