Title: Steering
Post by: jamesg1990 on 01 March 2009, 21:25
I've had a good look through the forum and can't find the answer to this question....however apologies if it's come up before!

I've got a creak in my steering. It happens during normal driving when I turn the wheel, yet does not happen when the car is stationary and the wheel is turned. The car doesnt make any noises on full lock. I've had the steering looked at for too much play and it seems ok. The suspension seems fine, I can push the front down and it springs back up and settles nicely.

Anyone had the same problem/got any ideas?

Cheers

Ok, I'll get them checked out this week. Do you know how much they're likely to cost?

It's a really odd problem, it seems as if the creaking/knocking is almost coming from within the steering column.

Update on this.

Taken car to garage, they say the ARB bushes are fine. It's actually a bush in the steering column. They said it's unlikely I'll be able to get the bush on its own, so it looks like new column time.

I've had a look on ebay and have found a couple but wasn;t sure if they would fit.

This one says it would need the barrel switching over, is this easy to do? What happens about the immobiliser?
Anyone know roughly how much a new part would be?

Cheers
