Got a 1991 GTI 8v & I want more power!!!!! (Power to the people!!!)
(For my golf really.)
But the only problem is I have a budget(bummer!).. What mods can I do to increase performance....that is noticable performance. Have done k&n induction kit, DTM S/S Exhaust and the usual carb cleaners, fuel additives and optimax.
Can you chip a 8v???
Or other simple mods
Cheers

Well, to be honest, I'm thinking you've done everything possible within your budget.
Now, moving along, if you're looking for extra speed (eg pulling away) or generally accelerating through the gears in a nippy manner - we are talking hills.
Prefereably, going down them.
Remember, gravity is free ;D
Oh, and try disconnecting your brakes. Not completely, now that would be dangerous, but make them less effective. This will change your driving habits very slightly, in making you not wanting to stop. This in turn, will make you drive faster.
Helpful tips, on a budget.

Hi Manesh,
In answer to your question about checking alternator belt tension, quote from Haynes manual:-
"Depress the belt firmly with a finger or thumb midway between the alternator and crankshaft pulleys. The belt sould deflect approximately 5mm".
