hey,i know its a dumb question but i really dont know anything about this area,but,ive been offered a car that has a 'slight misfire',ive never owned a car that is misfiring and dont know if this is a bad thing or a simple fix?! what are the symptoms and what is the worst case scenario etc? I feel slightly embarassed for having to ask this!haha,any help appreciated! thanks. :embarassed: :smiley:

All I can say is it will drive you mental trying to find the cause - but if your patient, you could get yourself a bargain.

When you go to look at the car, disconnect the HT lead and turn the engine over on the battery. What you are listening for are equal compressions, and not one cylinder 'missing' its stroke. Very difficult to explain in words what I mean.
You should hear, 'duh, duh, duh, duh'. If you hear 'duh, duh, duuuuuh, duh, duh, duh, duuuuuh etc' then you have a cylinder obviously with low compression causing a mis-fire and you walk away. If it sound even, then the chances are that its a simple cure like a plug, or a lead, and if the price is right, it may be worth a gamble.

Well,apparently,the rocker cover gasket was leaking before and spilled oil into the spark plug wells,the gasket has been sorted now but just needs some new plugs! Sounds about right to me anyway! Still not seen the car though so i'll still check the duh duh duh's. :grin:
