Just getting some ideas (most of which are stupid, namely this one  ) I found this picture on another forum
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/stegti/Picture014.jpg)
Are these G60 arches?? They look a lot wider than the ones I've seen on ebay at the mo. anyway....was thinking it'd look kool to put the front arches on the rear, leave the front ones as standard GTI's, and put some spacers on the rear, make it all a bit wider than the front. Do you think the front right arch would fit on the rear left, and front left on the rear right??
-
Yes they are G60 front plastic arches, I don't think they would ever fit on the rear though :)
-
not a straight swap no, it can be done with some effort though. seen it a couple o times. trouble is it'll look a bit pap unless you fill the arches, and to do that properly you need to do a bit of arch work. bit tricky at the back too, as its double skinned. if you cut them back they must be sealed properly or moisture will get up in the quarter pannel and rot it from the inside out.
-
Just put g60 rears on they are wider than standard anyway
-
you got any pictures of that done rubjonny? must look a bit weird!
-
not to hand, not so many people can be bothered with the hassles of makin em fit, I'll see if I can dig anythign out. I'd stick with the standard g60 rears:

By "making it fit", what does this entail?? Is that shaving off some of the arches down, or is there work to be done on the car too?? (apart from what has already been mentioned)

Lovely looking car that.
-
that looks sexy as hell
no rubbing strips FTW
are they G60 front and rear differant then ??
-
yeah the rear is more subtle different to the front, not as much didth difference on the back than G60/non-G60 front. I think the red one may even have std rears?
-
Mine are G60 items all round.

Ahh to many good looking cars!
Starting to think of reasons NOT to get a Mk2 as a little project over the summer....G60 rep? Hard finding excuses not to do one!

Is the black rear number plate legal? nice looking car
only on classic cars :)
but i guess they are classics in one way or another

Colour and dimensions
Black number plates with white or silver characters are permitted on vehicles manufactured before 1973.
Current plates have black characters on white reflective material (for the front plate) or on yellow reflective material (for the rear plate).
Older British plates had white, grey or silver characters on a black background. This style of plate was phased out in 1972, and is now legal to be carried only on vehicles built prior to 1 January 1973.
Front number plates are 520 mm x 111 mm (20.5" x 4⅜") in size. Rear plates may be 520 mm x 111 mm (standard), 285 mm x 203 mm (square) or 533 mm x 152 mm (large).[citation needed]
Motorcycles formerly had a double-sided number plate on top of the front mudguard, curved to follow the contour of the wheel and visible from the sides. The requirement for the front number plate was dropped in 1975 because of the severe danger these presented to pedestrians in the event of a collision.
Specialist HM Forces vehicles use black plates with white lettering.

I like it.. on a serious note though they are illegal and if caught as often I have been, it's a severe telling off or a fine or both! At the moment the car runs legal plates for peace of mind and as I am getting older and supoose to be setting a good example, I tend to leave the legal ones on lol....
