Urgent help required !!!
Last night My 8v gti digifant broke down.
The car will not run but it is firing ok, I think maybe a fuel pump problem?, i can't hear any noise from the pump when the ignition is on, i have checked the fuse which is ok can anyone help please???

now then matey. you have two pumps in a gti.one under the car and one in the fuel tank. have you checked both? you access the one in the tank in the boot through a black panal held in place with three screws.
You mention the car is firing ok but how sure are you? i have had a similar exsperiance. the sparks looked fine but they wernt! it turned out that the coil was knackered so try a new coil. they dont cost alot!
check your earth strap on the gear box to chassis. if you have a bad earth it will shag the ecu.
digifant can be a very sensitive system at times! (thats posh fo royal pain in the ass!) :D

Check that your fuel pump relay clicks when you turn the ignition. Also check for power at the fuel pump with a multimeter.

a mate had a problem like that. Turned out to be his ECU.

bought a fuel pump relay today, i hope thats all it is, will find out when i get home from work.
thanks for your help all, whereabouts is the ecu on the car? i hope its not that.
cheers
dave.

The fuel pump should prime the system when you switch the ignition on therefore you should here it run for 2 seconds before starting. If that's not the case then follow vr6's advice and check for power at the pump for that initial 2 seconds. If you're not getting power then it probably isn't your pump, check your relay and the electrical circuits surrounding it.
Let us know how you get on ;)

I sussed it !!!!, some divy has run a wire from the back of the fuse box to the fuel tank sender.
Don't ask me why !!
There it was, a sh!tty scotchlock connector!!
