Hi can anyone help me please I've had my wheel bearing changed on my mk2 Ryder(1991 on a j) which is on hot tuning coil overs now I've got the car back steering wheel isn't straight when driving in a straight line.Does it have a camber adjuster on it?Thanks

Camber shouldn't affect steering wheel alignment, Mk2's can ahve the camber adjusted at the bottom of the hub where it meets the wish bone, there is 3 boltsa in elongated holes that can adjust camber. If they have adjusted your tracking and only adjusted it on one side then your steering wheel wont be straight, 2 ways to fix, go back and get them to adjust the tracking properley by acctually adjusting the track rod ends at both ends or take your steering wheel off and repostion it, hope this helps.

Camber can effect wheel alignment. If they've removed the hub to replace the wheel bearing, then there's a good chance its out of whack.
The Hottuning coilies have oversized holes where it joins the hub - so the camber can move about 2-3 degrees.
You're best bet is to get the camber and alignment professionally setup, www.alignmycar.co.uk ;)

agreed, when i got my gti wheel was off centre, and camber was at full +ve at 1 corer. Got camber reset and wheel was close to straight again :)
best to leave the alignment for a week till the spension fully settles, then get camber & alignment done :)

Hi I've had a play this morning and reset the camber by eye and measurements from the other side of the car is driving sweet again and brakes in a straight line.I won't be taking it to them numpties again

I had this problem with my car, when I put my coilovers on, going in a straight line the wheel was slightly to the right, got camber and tracking done and it was sorted.

If your tracking is spot on but your steering wheel is still out, just remove and straighten.

What if you have an airbag ?, does it not use a slip ring/rotory coupler for the wireing that is keyed to the back of the wheel ?
If it does, then moving the wheel round could break the rotory couplings ribbon on full lock..
Not sure how its done on a golf....
Oh hang on, its 91 J, no airbag then ? :smiley:

Not really relevant for the MK2/3 'ers, but you can't just move the steering wheel position on modern cars because of the the sensor on the column that detects ESP/ASC

Even if you have an airbag it is easy enough to remove the steering wheel.

Had this on my Mk5, once I payed my deposit, the dealer put the car through MOT and replaced 2 tyres but one on the right rear and the other on the left front (dodgy incompetence). So after doing my nut, they swapped the wheels round and did the tracking and camber on the big 4 wheel rig. Drove away from the dealer and the steering wheel was sitting quite a bit of to the right when driving straight ahead. Went back, did my nut again, and knowing the tracking was spot on they simply popped off the wheel and moved it straight. I watched them do it (being a bit :angry:) and it can be moved a few splines from side to side without disturbing the ESP sensor, presumably to allow for this kind of minor adjustment when the tracking etc is all spot on...
