Has anyone bought an import GTI and had a problem getting full UK warranty?
Initially my local stealer said all they need is the VIM number which i gave them in order to get it registered on VW UK.
They are now saying that they need the original service manual which annoyingly was not provided with the car (i was supplied with a new one).
Basically that the car is not covered even though i can prove when the car was bought etc
I will clarify this from VW UK in the morning but has anyone got any advice or experienced a similar thing?
Seems bonkers to me

phone VW head office. Dealers are kn0bs! That way you get the correct information and with a little push your dealer will actually do as YOU want them to do rather than what they feel like doing on any given day
-
hmm, normally they ask for your V5 and the sticker at the front of your service book.
That said, where did you buy it from as some importers (no names mentioned) have stock on their books that are older than two years hence no VW warranty.

Like motorpoint for example? :lipsrsealed:

the car was registered in Aug 08 apparently so the warranty should Aug 2010.....

It was Motorpoint but i know that the car was reg in Aug 08

Then you have 2 years :-) check the vin number easily visible on the car it will have a digit in the (10th?) position of 8 if it's 2008. Search here for vin numbers and MY (model years).

Doesn't matter when it was actually registered in the UK, the VW warranty period starts from the day the car is PDIed at the foreign dealer.
Now you begin to understand why you didn't get the owners manual?
-
Yes i understand that. The car was manufactured in 2008 and the VIN number indicates this as well (thanks no golf clubs btw)
-
What am I missing here..ok the car may be a model year 2008 but could still have been manufactured in 2007 from say July? If warranty starts from pdi date then assuming a little delay you could still worst case have say 6 months warranty left! Who says no warranty? Get pdi date and talk to vw away from Motorpoint they may be compromising eu law and your statutory rights.

What MOTORPOINT say on their website is & I quote:
Vehicles are supplied with balance of manufacturers warranty where available.
Does your receipt from them state any manufacturer warranty terms?
If so & VW are not agreeing to that then you should be able to hand the car back to MP as it was mis-described.

Thanks for all your help and advice.
I think I have got this resolved going straight to VW UK. All they need is the V5 which is what i thought. When i said that my local dealer wanted the Service book they were lets just say 'surprised'
Just another case where a local delear either doesn't know what to do or doesn't want to help. I suspect it was the latter.

have had 2 golfs off motorpoint no probs if u want full warranty pay through the nose from ur local stealers.tight bleeders.x

Yes, but when was it built? On what day did it leave the factory gates at Wolfsburg?
If you PM me your VIN number, I can look up these two exact dates.

Not necessarily, the 10th digit of the VIN only indicates the 'model year'. It has bu&&er all to do with when the car was actually built, nor when it was PDId, nor when it was registered.
So, IF your car has an 8 as the VIN 10th digit, then it could have left the factory gates as early as June 2007. If that is the case, then it has probably been sitting at Grimsby docks for the best part of a year, soaking up all that salt spray.

ah i see! Well after speaking to VW UK the car was first registered in Feb 08 so i have around a year left of the warranty.

But do you actually know when your car was built?

nope

Are all Motopoint cars imports?
Do they all come with warranty??
I was looking at a ED30 with 6 miles on the clock the other day, but wouldnt touch it if it wasnt covered by warranty!
