Hi all,
Im looking for some Monzas, but originals are too pricey!
Question is - are replicas worth having? Is the fact that they are 8J rim width instead of 7.5J a problem?
Additionally - Ive currently got the 17" version - will I need new bolts or can I use current ones?
Also, I have a choice of the following tyres within my budget - if I go for tyres, what do you recommend for a balance of grip/long life?
1. Kuhmo
2. Avon ZZ3
3. Falken
4. Nexen
Cheers!

Use this
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
It is essential to check the offset and larger width, to make sure there are no problems with clearance,
unlikely to need longer bolts, thats normally only necessary with spacers.
I'd choose the KU31's for tyres

Cheers mate,
Unbelieveably, I just found a set of genuine 18s on Ebay for £380 delivered!
They have 3 5mm pirellis on and 1 poor dunlop, so Ive bought em!
Seems a good deal and I will get most of my money back by selling my 17s

What proof did the ebay advert have that they where genuine ? That sort of money is replica money like these.

I sent a text and email to the seller (got his mobile no).
He's a performance car dealer - 100% guarantees they are genuine wheels.
Also, they are 7.5J wide....I understand almost all replicas are 8J

if the seller is supersheen1 avoid he is a lying barsteward ask laserblue.

I will swap around with those I have curently and take the best 4!!
Also, have just texted the seller again to ask about BBS and ET51 stamps on the back, he confirms alloys have this, so they look to be the real deal!

I am 99% sure if they are 7.5 wide then they will be genuine as most / all reps are 8" wide.
-
replicas......NOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
If they are real then you have got yourself a bargin there.

Cheers mate, I thought they looked a good deal, so jumped in on "buy it now" sharpish!
Just budgeting another £100 for a pair of Kumhos, one to replace the 3mm Dunlop and 1 for one of the 5mm Pirellis. Then leaves me a spare Pirelli for unforseen problems!
Once I get them and am happy, will be selling my 17s.
Regards

Are they Monza IIs, as they don't have a diamond cut finish or the darker grey paint on the insides? If they're just Monzas then I didn't know you could get 18" variants?

Yes, I thought that. Maybe been refurbed/resprayed - seems pretty common on Monzas because of white worm problems.

take a pic of the inside when they arrive mate, it will be obvious if they are VW genuine or they are others...there are a lot of very good copies around, but there are a higher number cheap copies too. Pretty sure you will be ok, good luck.

Even if they are genuine, surely the fact they aren't 2 tone and diamond cut means they lose most of the appeal of having Monza IIs? You'd need another £400 to get them looking like new.

???
Im quite happy to buy genuine 18s for this price. O.K, would be nice if they were 2 tone, but its not the end of the world!
They will fill the arches nicely!

Fair enough. As long as you know. They will still be better than reps due to being lighter and possibly stronger.
