does any one know if the clutch kit contains a thrust (aka clutch release) bearing for mk1 gti cab.
as recently had clutch done they said it had to be "modified"
with a lump of rubber to get it adjusted.
the clutch has been in about 4 week and their bodge worked now its got so bad it cannot dis engage clutch.
upon looking at operating lever position it was in wrong place (its splined internally on a lever).
i suggested they may of got it in wrong place initiallly when changing thrust bearing.
and they recon thrust bearing was not changed as its not in clutch kit. am picking up in 1/2 hour and expecting arguement so need reliable info to fight back with.
thanks

I don't know if your kit came with a clutch relei bearing or not, but it is such a cheap part and everyone I know if changing the cluch changes this aswell.
I would have a good moan and get them to sort it out.

i've always replaced thrust bearings with clutches, but i think they are trying to push off blame
-
Do you know how many miles you have done since? If so write it down all this sort of stuff helps you with evidence.
Good luck hope you can get it sorted

hope its sorted by sunday!!!!!!!.
otherwise i'll get tin to tow me down the 1/4 mile
-
what a great way to finish your clutch off ;D
I won't be doing the 1/4 mile as I still have 2,500 run in miles to do and that ain't possible before then!
-
lend me the car and i'll do the miles for you ;D

Not sure, i think the clutch system is the 'reverse' type with the pressure plate fitted to the crankshaft flange.
If so then the release bearing is separate and can be done with the gearbox still in the car, just by removing the end cover of the gearbox.

apparently they said the aftermarket clutchcable they fitted was faulty, so they fitted oe one.
translation
we ordered and fitted the wrong cable the first time and dont wish to look stupid, so we are blaming the maker of the cable.
in any case they sorted it and didn't attempt to charge me, so wont be needing the tow down the 1/4 mile.
thanks all for looking/ helping me

Glad you got it sorted, see you sunday
