popped down to the valetting place today to drop off some posters I'd made for them. There's also a used car pitch owned by the same people.
There stands a N plate 3 door mk3 Gti 8v just been sold. I had a look round it and it looks fairly tidy. The interior is in good nick. No tears or things missing. Just needed a good hoover. Body is good. nine spoke wheels are minorly kerbed. 120k on the clock. Oh, and the GTi badge is missing off the front.
Dave, the owner, asks what I recon it's worth. I say ?3k give or take....
He just sold it for ?1250!
a f**king steal I'd say!

And this guy makes a living out of selling cars ??? I think that's why he's only got a used car 'pitch' . Dizzie, give us a shout when he gets a Rallye in for 2k will you ;D

120k for an n reg is okish but depends on service history, i would have said without looking at it at least 2500

Mk3 Golf prices are fluctuating at the mo, there are some bargains about!

i wouldnt spend 3k on an N reg 8v GTI. its the top end of the market (and some).
a quick look on Autorader shows thousands of Golfs up for sale with similar cars going for anything between 1k and ?2.5k. K regs are even on for aroud ?700.
the value of older cars are dropping through the floor at the moment, although i still cant find a Rover 827 for ?200 >:(

I think the value of Mk3 is on the tumble - now the Mk5 is out, it looks pretty old fashioned. It hasn't got the cred of the Mk2 either, so my guess is they'll be getting very cheap over the next year / 18 months.
I'm thinking of selling my 1998 Mk3 GTi, but I reckon I'll be lucky to scrape ?3k for it.
Hey ho, such is life!!
