I'm going to get an ATB differential from Quaife.
What is the procedure?
Do you just order one and take it to a garage to fit, or do specialists fit them?
If it is specialists (and I hope so) then does anyone know of one in the NW of England?
(I was tempted by RR's comments over the last few months and it seems to work so well in the new RS, plus my BMW has a normal LSD and I like it.)
Thanks

Hmm, IMO you would only want someone who's done the install before to install such a piece of hardware i.e. a specialist. Seems like RR's RacingLine mechanics have lots of experience so that's where I would think about going to in the first instance.
-
If it's manual then most mechanics with ATB experience would be fine. With a DSG 'box though, you really want to go to someone who has either done it before or knows a lot about DSG. JBS and AwesomeGTI spring to mind for NW England (well, they're NW to me anyway  )
-
awesome gti would probably be able to fit it but i would personally take it to VWR.
-
Thanks for the answers fellas.
I've mailed Quife to see who they suggest. The gearbox is a DSG.
-
If you go to RacingLine, no doubt they lend you their red demo for the day.
-
....
Just to clarify - VWRacing and RacingLine are the same organisation.
Give Mark Farmer at VWR/RL a call - 077 92 32 97 21 - and do say I recommended you (I'm not on any commission etc) - He's very experienced in fitting Quaife's in DSG boxes.
As others have said, it needs doing by someone who is an experienced expert.

Thanks RR.
VWR look a little more competant than our local VW specialist, Volkstech

^^^^
Judging by their web site, Volkstech look very competant at working on the older more classic VeeDubs - Plenty of experience there but in a different sector.
One aspect of VWR is that their first priority is to racing and so it's a matter of being flexible and fitting in with their schedules (which can suddenly change when a race car suddenly needs a rebuild!), but they'll give you 200% when it's your turn. Just read some of what those who've used them have to say. As you'd expect, they are extremely well connected too. It's horses for courses but wherever you decide to go, have a chat with Mark first and make up your own mind of course (he's a genuine petrolhead enthusiast and not a salesman and actually doesn't really need 'retail' business).

Sorry Robin but I have to disagree with that statement... In my experience, it was more like 400% to the extent that I was slightly embaressed that they treated me so well...

....What on earth are you talking about? - It's an alien space ship which was transplanted into your car while you were being royally treated to distract you from what was really happening.

Why? The Quaiffe ATB is no different, spanner-wise to any other differential. The most important issue is to get someone who is a 'transmission' specialist - such as Inde-Tech
-

Why? If Awesome have opened up a DSG before, and they are proficient at doing so, then why should VWR (who don't tell the truth) be any better than Awesome.?

If this turns into a VWR bashing/defending thread the big red button will be pushed

Agreed - but someone who is experienced in your own transmission, rather than a 'Quaiffe' expert.

If you are waving your pinkie at me - then I am just stating there are probably many, many other companies out there who have just as good, if not better experience than VWR - and am just keen to know where VWRs alleged 'experience' on road-car DSGs comes from. Because fitting two Quaiffes does NOT constitute any kind of 'expert'!

....Give him a call and find out for yourself, T_T.
They've done rather more than two - They've probably done two in the last 7-10 days! What IS your problem T_T?

OK, OK I know what this road this thread is taking, so I'll lock it from here on.
