Do I *really* need to prime the carriers and callipers before I paint them red?
-
Not if you hammerite them
-
Nope! Just give them a good clean with a wire brush! And then clean off with some brake cleaner or similar.

i recoment getting a hammer with a ball end, not big!!!! and tap the callipers all over, it will free off any corrosion or flakes after you've cleaned them!
spray hammerite for the ultimate ghetto finnish! it does take longer to dry tho so dont even think about touching them for at least 24 hours in a warm room! i did my g60 brakes using that method and if it wasnt for the fact i dropped them they'd look sex!

Said brakes will be attached to the car :P

I always brush mine with hammerite.
-
Did mine still on the car and used hammerite with a brush.
Didnt take long to dry, did one side of car together, front then back. Put wheels back on and then did other side.

I bought a full kit from the bay for about £16.....
This was paint, a tin of brake cleaner & brush.
Did a good job of the calipers as well
