Title: 2.0 gt fsi induction kits
Post by: bertmort8 on 23 February 2009, 15:32
just wondering who has got an induction kit on their golf and if they rate it or not

im looking for one and been told about the bmc, looking for the note that it gives aswell as the slight power increase

anythingelse you can do to this model relatively cheap to get faster

Personally I'm not a fan of Induction kits. The usual culprits are available for the Golf (K+N etc)...... I'm actually looking at something like an ITG panel filter (to replace the stock) - cheaper upgrade and there will be improved airflow.

BUT.... it's all well and good putting Induction/Filters on but that's only half of the issue.

With a breathing mod, if you don't improve the outgoing movement, you're not going to really feel the benefit. ie lots of air coming into the car, but then being stifled by the exhaust......

Lots of people genuinely forget this ;)

FWIW, I did the same mod on my old Scooby a few years back. Did the ITG first. didn't make any difference really apart from the placebo effect!!
Put a full decat on, and well, the smiles per mile went up considerably!!!

I did change back to a standard filter and noticed a slight negative difference....

To answer your question though, yes they're available, but personally for the money, I'd stick with a better panel filter (unless you like the change in sound!!!)

Dan :)

Iv just had this Carbino CAI put in this morning, only really driven it back from the workshop. I am off to the Brands Hatch meet now so will give her a good blast and see if I can notice any improvement.

that looks really nice, yeh let me know how it sounds and performs, dont suppose you can really notice the difference in performance can you ???

....

I don't think you'll feel any performance gain without a performance exhaust and remap. Slightly improved throttle response perhaps but the actual filter used is also a factor.

As what Red says.
I dont rate the carbonio very overpriced for what you get IMO.I had one and switched to this

I agree, Zorst is next on the hit list and has overtaken wheels in importance :D

Not really noticed much after an enthusiastic drive home, deff got slightly better throttle response when at lower speeds and makes a slightly nicer sound.

The oil cap should have the elevated section running parallel to the ribs on the air box when fully tightened.

btw Is that a real Carbonio as I thought the carbonio intakes all came with a carbonio sticker on them??

....No-one has reported being able to spot any physical differences but the Carbonio CF rams have their sticker and the replicas on fleeBay don't have the sticker.

Without the sticker makes me think it's from http://www.carbonspeed.co.uk/product_cs100.asp

^^^^

Really the same! Surely does exactly the same job as it's exactly the same shape and configuration.

I wonder what the deal is with Carbonio themselves who surely patented their design, or is this Carbonspeed product offered with Carbonio's blessing?

They even include the same Pipercross panel filter.

Is it the genuine VW oil cap? can't see the castrol inprint!
Title: Re: 2.0 gt fsi induction kits

Well, the car was bought from VW with one previous owner so I would assume it is. It looks identical to Robins.

So what was the end result here? Did everyone agree that the unstickered one was exactly the same as the carbonio one?

Also who can tell me where to get the carbon engine cover?

....Seems to be exactly the same except for the Carbonio badge.

If you mean the carbon engine cover strip on mine (in the pic above) - It's from the TTshop 01234 855 555 Justin or abi and mention Robin (me). Made by OSIR and not cheap due to foreign exchange rates. The blue enamel VW badge isn't included.

Hade the Carbon speed one in for a few months now and it seems fine. Even better since the full Miltek went in.

Long time late but re the oil cap...you should find that the top section that you grip detaches from the main body of the filler cap.  So you can take it off and reset it to the 'correct position' if it takes your fancy.

Or go for the R8 filler cap like

Yeah, I found that out at Santa Pod when it popped off during some strip action. I burnt my clutch out so poped the bonnet, and saw it sitting there, lucky I checked the clutch otherwise I wouldnt have seen that it had come off.
