Title: Removing sign writing?
Post by: Josho on 23 February 2009, 12:52
My dad has an ex window van, and you could always just about see the ex sign writing, but as I suppose the paint has started wearing, you can really see it and it looks like it's blue sign writing. What's the best method of removing this? I've heard petrol works.

Thanks.

pics would be good just to see what your up against, if theres still glue residue on the van get some t&g remover then you will proberly improve it by getting it mopped with a fine compound, this may only improve it a bit but might not get rid of it completely due to the paint fading around the stickers due to uv exposure etc.

Hot air gun or hair dryer to get off the vinyl and a lot of care and patience. Follow this up with a glue and tar remover to get rid off the residue.
I would then say you'll need to machine polish the vehicle as the paint will be in good condition where the lettering was, and weather worn and oxidised for the rest. Not a huge job but worthwhile.
