Title: DOH!! - Should have done it when I bought it- !!
Post by: tariqb on 20 February 2009, 23:29
Owdie Cowboys - I bought this gti back in december - still not on the road - first i had to wait a lifetime for the log book without which i was not able to get tax  etc etc...

When i bought it the guy i got it off always opened the bonnet himself - now after this last month with the snow and freezing weather it seems the battery has gone - the power locks dont work - the car wont start - so i will be jump starting it tomorrow- however i cant get the bonnet open!!!   -  Obviously i released the catch inside the car - a usual clunk - but i still cant get the bonnet open - please advise - apart from that the passenger door is stuck the maf has probably gone - great huh!

Get someone to pull it up while you pull the handle.

just to the left of the vw grille badge a T shaped pull handle should pop out when you pull the bonnet up (after releasing it with the catch inside) get down and have a nosey around that area, you should see something to pull

As stated earlier the passenger door is stuck and the drivers is stiff - there is a noise fron the door that resembles the noise of a 1976 Datsun - understandably need help

Perhaps the cable has stretched. May need a new release cable for the bonnet

when i bought it and the price that i got it for i knew that i had to spend a few hundred pounds to get it up to speed - thats not including any add ons - i've got £500 to spend - that should do it -
