Title: mk2 16V vrs mk3 VR6
Post by: philadams16V on 06 July 2004, 12:30
Just want to know which would be faster in a flat out 0-60, and a 0-100mph.  I know the VR6 is more BHP, but those heavy mk3s ain't built for speed are they?  ::)

oh dear indeed martz! :D

im not eben gonna argue on this one,

mk216v 0-60 about 7.9secs
mk3vr6 0-60 conservative about 7.4

but dont go racing one phil, it'll tear you a new asshole!!!!!! :D :D :D

straight line, a vr6 will chew up and spit out a 16v

going round corners would be a different story

and what are the chances of that being the end of this topic?  :-X  ;D

0-60 you'd find yourself entering the realms of despair (if you're the 16v driver that is), as the VR6 would have a few feet on you.

somewhere between 60-80 despair becomes frustration, and between 80-100 tears well up as you realise there is nothing you can whatsoever and you just got trampled big time.

so there you have it. dont race a VR6. if you do, pray they miss a gear change. or two.

UPDATE: in fact - pray they have a totally buggered gearbox.

UPDATE2: and engine.

as for going round corners - there wont be much in it. they both feel like crates, and you'd be had by anything that is mid engined.

in fact, if you're planning on racing a VR6 your only hope is that you stage it over about 300 miles, as the 16v is more efficient. you hope.

Mk2 16v will corner much better than the mk3 if mk3 is stock suspension, but how many mk3 vr6's still have stock suspension? once modded there won't be that much difference.
As for 0-60/0-100 vr6 v 16v, i won't even bother answering that  :D

last week me and a mate raced through some country lanes at night which we both knew very well, and i thrashed him, but once we got onto the dual carriageway leading back to wolves, he went past me like i was in reverse!!

It does look like a sweet ride you got there

As for vr6 vs 16v in a straight line, the vr6 will win hands down!!!   ;D

Down a very, very, very twisty back road, the 16v might just beat it if both the cars are totally stock!

the mk2 16v WILL beat it in that situation, hands down ;)

i meant more engine wise spec slicksta :D?????

this is a graphical representation of the 16v and vr6 racing round a corner, the 16v is the one on the left in the distance, vr6 is the one in the foreground. (weights are accurate) 8v mk2 just out of shot behind  :-[

Tinman What do you mean they would be like crates going round a corner? I own a MK2 16v and it handles that well that I smoked an Mr2 last week which is mid-engined rear wheel drive.

Well I think you lot are over doing a bit on the VR6 Golf.  I am commuting to work at the moment in my 90 16 valver and the amount of cars my dub is capable of embarassing never ceases to amaze.  If you come out of a roundabout onto dual carriageway 2nd and 3rd most cars struggle to catch up including, just recently, a K reg VR6.

There's only a few BHP/Ton difference!!!!

Now, my last car was a Corrado VR6 and that was bloody fast!!!!!!

I would never buy a GOLF MK3 VR6.... whats the point?

Oh and I do love golfs (this is my 8th)

No offence Dan

Not really at all mate.
For a start the vr6 you raced was probably sh!t.
There is very little difference between a corrado and golf vr6, in reality most golf vr6 rolling road at around 190bhp, the reason i bought the golf is i have a family.
If you actually drove a decent golf vr6, you would see that a mk2 16v wouldn't stand a chance!
And yes i have owned a few valvers, they corner much better (only if both cars are stock suspension), in a straight line there is no comparison.

Post by: marcus123 on 09 July 2004, 15:17
ive driven both

the torque throughout the rev range in a vr6 is ubeliavable,

espechially low down,

the 16v is pretty flat up untill 3k revs

after that tho it flies,
if both cars were rolling in a race the vr6 would still eat it.

p.s i own a mk2 16v which is mint,
not biased towards vr6's at all ;)

even the 2.0 16v MR2's are about as quick as a mk2 16v, my mates got one and theres not much in it on a straight run.

Long bends are awesome in the MR2 and tight twisty bends are my favourite!!!

By the way marcus, im waitin to get a set of rallye headlamps and complete stainless exhaust instead of my sebring backbox for my next mods.

what have you boys got planned next?

ps: my car is on a G plate too
