hi has anyone bought a car from moterpoint burnley are they any good or are there prices to good to be true cheers
-
What are the prices like?
-
hi there they are 16995 plus 395 reg fee and car tax what do you think good or bad i think they are imports because they have no leather
-
Is that for a brand new GTI MK5??
Thats not too bad TBH. UK Spec cars dont all have leather seats - thats an optional upgrade I believe - so dont assume its an import just because it has cloth seats!
Im sure someone will pop along shortly and inform us of how to tell if its an import or not......
Ive not checked prices of new GTI's for a while since Im after a ED30, but they could well have dropped due to the credit crunch etc.....

Sounds like an old car thats not been regestured. Leather has been standard now for a GTi for nearly a year. Think twice on this one, have seen pictures of people's cars who have purchased one of these imports to find that under the bonnet that its covered in dust/sand/salt and even rust.
Alot of these Mk5's have been stood around and thats why they are being offered for way under RRP with 2 years warranty to boot. For a New GTi, prices around 18500 to 19500 for basic spec Uk is what id expect to pay with full 3 years warranty.
hope this may help

Motorpoint sell imports. The new UK GTI's have had leather as standard for a while now too. £17400 is what I'd expect to pay as a maximum for a basic UK model, not an import that may have been sitting on a Dockside for 18months

hi ive got a golf gt sport orig bought from motorpoint burnley, i'm now the second owner and bought it at 10 months old for £10,000. orig cost was £16,00. the car is perfect in every way, the only downside is you only get a 2 year warrenty with vw as it is an import and not 3 years as std.i believe they were imported from malta orig.
hope this helps

Thats where my sand/salt quote is truthful statement.
You take a chance and by the sounds of it, you got one that was a good one, but the model year would be an MY08 for a new reg car. Hense price drop.
A car thats been stood for long periods has to be looked at very closely.
Good luck in your hunt for what is a great car. You wont regret it.

I eventually went down the main dealer route for my Gti. Though i did contact these guys for my wife's car and also at the time looked into some Gti's for myself.
Though i never used them i found them very efficient to deal with and the trade in on the wife's car was better than any other forecourt we had been to.
As said about what put me off the Gti was the length of time from build to 1st drive, could easily have been a year.

It will definitely be an import
I have bought before from Motorpoint, Derby, and everything went fine... car was great
You will get yourself a bargain IMHO, may be even worth haggling on the price if they have quite a few left !
Just check out what has been mentioned above.
A PDI should have been completed at the foreign garage of import - this should be stamped and dated in the Service booklet - check the date - your 2 year warranty starts from then !!
You can also check year of manufacture here....get the VIN number and enter it into here :

I posted what to check for on imports in this old thread (see reply 6) :

Why not do what I did? I considered an import but when I read about the sitting around and rust issues I decided to give it a miss.
In Sept I bought a 4k miles, 7 month old Gti with a few options from a main dealer for £15k! OK, very slightly used, but cheaper and with a longer warranty.
Worth an investigation. :)

i bought a zafira from that motorpoint afew year ago and after 2 weeks it just used to cut out while doing 70 up the motorway, they had it back and 'fixed' the problem 2 times, then the third time we took it back and got all our money back
bought another car from that carcraft place too, not on there finance tho. that had soo many faults too, rear right suspension had snapped off after afew days. the right rear brake pad was not clipped on, the garage i took it too said i was lucky i hadnt had to brake hard as it would of spun out or summut like that
got rid of that then got the golf from a vw dealer
learnt my lesson from those type of places, never again

And you prolly won't get a spare wheel, just a can of gunk. If you're ever trading in take yours out and sell on the bay.... Remembering to replace with a can of tyre weld ;-)

Standard GTi's from 2008 all have leather as standard.
-
Yes leather is standard from 2008 if the GTI is UK spec.
GTI's sold at Motorpoint is NOT UK spec.
I bought a new GTI from Motorpoint in Nov 08 for £16.3k (with cruise as an extra)
OK you don't get spare, dual zone climate, leather typically but what you do get is a GTI at a great price.
I love my new GTI - only gripe i had is the user handbook was not supplied but they did pay for a new one from my local stealer however i have no proof that it was PDI'd.
