Title: Mk1 Cab - Power Steering !!??
Post by: Dan W on 06 July 2004, 10:27
I think I know the answer to this but worth the question to others who may prove me wrong !!

Do any of the later Mk1 Golf Cabs (H, J or K reg's) come with power steering, even as an optional extra when new !?

I think all are without but would be interested if you have ever heard or indeed driven different.
If not then I guess the oldest cab you could get with power steering would be a Mk3?

Thanks
Dan

Dan, mine's not got power steering and any that I have ever seen advertised with power steering have all been conversions and I've looked at a lot of adverts over the years ! I don't think they were ever an optional extra even when new but I could be wrong.  :(

By the way, they did mk1 cabs up until 93/L but they are a very rare sight.  :)

Hi, Yes i've seen a few advertised with conversion power steering which I guess yours must also have then !? I did wonder if this was any good - but I guess you wouldn't have it in yours if I wasn't !!

pas was never an option on a mk1 cab. i guess the idea is to build up the hairdresser arms of the owners  :P joke :)

tsr have been doing that conversion for years so i imagine there must be a few out there

a guy at inters this year reckons there was a '94 sportline:

1) I'm goinna bring my clippers to GTi festival to show you how strong my arms are jv  ;)  :P

2) I'm not saying I don't believe him but I don't get how that would work though as 94/L would need to be registered from Jan 94 to end of July 94 so why weren't there more ? The only explanation I can think of is that this particular sportline was built well before it was first registered for whatever reason.  ???

but then you would need to be lhd.
sa have aircon options on the citi, maybe if they do pas on them you could possibly order parts from sa as it would be rhd

most of the american rabbit cabs had power steering, its nice to have with the car but its something at the cost of ?1000 you can live without.

there are a few rumors that you can use a MK2 steering rack system, odd times on ebay they come up, i wouldnt like to fit one and besides you eat into your engines power. Hell who needs ABS, Power steering, cruise control, ESP them toys are for idle people who drive on rails. The thinking mans car has non of these luxuries half the fun.
