Get the lock replaced and you can get a delock kit which cover the key whole but they'll need spraying.

Just be careful, if the battery goes flat, then you are stuffed. Altough I now know a trusty way of getting in.

You shouldn't need a lock barrel.

Providing your handle isn't damaged you can de lock it. It involves taking the lock barrel ou and replacing with a dummy. Behind this there is also an extremely important metal disc which needs to be inserted to prevent it happening again. The cap's just cover all this which can be painted.

It is a very poor design flaw which cn only be fixed by the above method. The de lock kits can be bought from ebay for about £14 IIRC.

Did it to mine before something happened, and was amazed at how poor the design was. You can effectively disarm the alarm, open the door and wind the windows down with a screwdriver...

Won't go into detail on a public forum as it could get into the wrong hands!

P.S if the battery goes flat you can enter through the rear hatch (pardon the expression) via the key and lock, nothing to worry about with that lock , nice and secure!

Take your stereo out and valubles untill it's fixed. They can only get in, but not start the car as the immobilser will still work.

Failing that, have you got a comfy sleeping bag?

True

NOT TRUE!

Belive me the metal disc is what makes it secure. Without it you are only prentending to have no locks.I can't emphasise this enough. You NEED the metal disc. If some chump wants to try there luck on your car without the disc they WILL get in if they know what there doing.

Sorry to SHOUT but i can't make it clear enough!!!!

The question was " Surely you don't need the little disk, it's jusy safer too "

You dont have to fit it!!!

As you say without it it not as secure but you can do it you still have the metal part of the delock in place

I fitted mine and would defo recommend fitting it.

But the pikey scum bag's don't use the lock barrel to gain entry mate so your no better off than with a lock barrel in and a de-lock cap over the top (if it fitted but you get my point)

If your unsure how they get in then PM me and i will explain in detail mate rather than broadcast it over the net  :nerd:

I not 100% how thay get in - however all  i was pointing out is if you dont want to fit the disc you dont have to.

As you quite rightly say the car wont be secure without it.

I think the point being stressed is if you de-lock it, but don't fit the disc, it still LOOKS delocked, so will put off the majority of car thieves, as they'd have to take a gamble just to find out if you did fit the disc or not.

Much easier for them to just move on to a Golf with no de-locking kit on it.

Ahh cool I get you, a bit like saying you don't have to use all 5 wheel bolts when putting new alloy's on!

I'd rather not risk it and just put the disc in

This happened to me a few weeks ago.  They damaged part of my door handle too but after some filler and being sanded down, it'll be good as new after it's been sprayed.  The de-lock kit seems the most sensible option.

Although they caused more damage to my car than yours. When they broke the lock they must have pulled the handle so hard it caused a small dent next to it in the door.  Not too bad though.  What can you do so there's no point being annoyed.

I'm liking the look of it a lot

What do you do if the remote locking doesn't work for some reason and let's say the boot was delocked also! And then to add to the problem when you delocked your doors you put this metal circle in to cover the only entrance in to the car lol. I guess a drill straight through the fake barrel and the the circle disk and then a screw driver to open it... And now i'm even more confused because i could swear when you open the door with a key it still activates remote locking and it's opened electrically!?

Hi,

Theres no need to de-lock the boot so it's all good (unless your silly and do it anyway)

How much money you got

Lloyds refinisher's in Plymouth is supposed to be one of the best in the south west, also one of the most expensive.

I got mine done through a mate, got the bonnet notch welded and smoothed plus resprayed, grill sprayed and fitted, sideskirt repaired after the OEM jack went straight through it  roof resprayed, wing's blended in and mirror covers done... or and the rear bumper re painted! Got it all done for £450!!!  Was supposed to be £550 but he had problems with the front bumper and it wasn't (still isn't) perfect so knocked £100 off

Gonna wait until i decide on a FMIC which may require me butchering it a bit then get it in to have a top job on it!

TBH i'd just go by other peoples recommendations around your way mate. Don't have to pay silly money for a good job. Other than the bumper I was pleased with mine.
