could anyone tell me if the mk1 engines(dx) are meant to run hot?the thing with mine is that,the fan tends to kick in quite quickly when idling after doing a couple of miles.

it doesn't take long for my fan to kick in when idling, once the engine is warm. Unless the temp light comes on, I wouldn't worry about it.

How mad is this, I was going to start a thread today asking a similar question. I noticed the other day that my temp gauge was going up to about half way and above (but not into the danger zone) within the first ten minutes of driving from cold, I then had my thermostat changed yesterday as that's the quick and cheapest first option. This morning the temp gauge went up to just before halfway, again within ten minutes, the gauge then never went further than halfway and did drop down and up as I was stuck in traffic anyway. I kept an eye on the oil temp and that went from 94 - 102. I know the oil temp is well within it's ok range, but does anyone else's cab heat up to nearly half way so quickly ?  ???

The temp light never flashed on BTW.

my temp gauge goes just below half normally,so i know that's working o.k.i coulden't understand why the fan would kick in so quickly if i was for instance stuck in traffic,but as adam pointed out it's proberly nothing to worry about as long as the fan kicks in.my oil temp goes up to a max of 102 degrees on a run.i think that's within spec.

eyelet, I kept my beady on the temp this morning and it was running just below halfway and my fan comes in when I'm in traffic and even comes on when the ignition is off sometimes just to cool it down when I park up. 102 for oil temp is well within range but it does look like I needed to change my thermostat as it's running cooler than it was the other day.  :)

mines the same as yours gibby,so that must be the way the engine runs :)

Don't complain about the engine warming up quickly, thats a good thing.
If it warms up quickly and the temp doesn't go over half then the thermostat is doing its job properly.

Thanks for the re-assurance 6. My thermostat wasn't working too well at the beginning of this week but after it's been changed it appears to be spot on. FF  :)
