Title: New exhaust fitted, who's got a discreet tailpipe?
Post by: sambo on 19 February 2009, 18:35
Well i have. Really pleased with the exhaust fitted, excellant quality etc. Only one annoyance is it's a tad boomy in the car at low rev's (pulling away for example) Get a little vibration through the seat aswell!

I've heard people complain about this before but didn't want a tailpipe poking out. Wondering if anyone else has this problem?

Other than that it's nice, spool's up quick. Just taken battery off for 10 min'sso it learn's the new exhaust, not sure if it will make much differance before a remap or not?

Cheers, Sam

Don't know if it's just because i'm used to the standard exhaust or not, just getting used to a bit more noise!

Is your's miltek?

I may see if they can turn mine 45 degrees so it's not so close to the ground (about 7" at the moment)

Cheers, Sam

"its a tad boomy in the car at low revs" with the discreet tailpipe option you will find it to be "boomy" its a fact you will have to put up with due to the fact where do the gases exit ie the tailpipes are turned down to the ground which in effect bounces them back up and around the valance which is why you get the boomy sound whereas straight exit pipes ie 4mo anni is directed directly out into the atmosphere therefore not being trapped nice to be discreet but if your paying good money imo for a system even tho yours isnt miltek i would prefer to see the pipes also it looks spot on from the rear :afro:

Since I've had car been unable to decide whether to keed std montyII's and go discreet, or go for 4-motion pipes and MK1 S3 alloys :undecided:

Still don't know what to do??

Are Milltek and Scorpion the only companys which offer discreet pipes? If boomy then gonna go for 4-motion. For some reason I always imagine a custom-made exhaust to be boomier anyway..

It's only boomy in the car. Sounds real nice outside. Have a few differant idea's turn the tailpipe 45 degrees, dynamt boot flooretc but i'm gonna let it wear in a bit first.

I bought it for the performance and i know it's there, so why would i want to see it every day! I prefer the look of a smooth bum  :smug:

Hi,

It was £550 for a turbo back (3" downpipe sports cat 2.5" pipe through with discreet backbox.) fully fitted and guaranteed for life (except the cat)

Haven't got a pic because the car is too low. Next time i get it up on some ramp's i'll try and get one. Really pleased with the work though, nice neat job with good weld's etc.

Milltek guarantee there cats for lifetime?

If so then they must be silly. If you boot it around with a dodgy running car you can quite easily burn the cat out in no time.

Mines only covered for 12 months I think, or maybe 2 years can't remember.

I won't go into this too much as it will just go round in circle's.

Cat's do wear out though no matter who make's them

If i remember rightly though, there was a member of uk-mkivs.net who had a problem with his exhaust, think the baffle's fell out inside and milltek didn't want to know!!

Will see if i can dig out the thread if i can find it.

I thought sport cats didnt have as many baffles as a stndard cat?
Title: Re: New exhaust fitted, who's got a discreet tailpipe?
Post by: sambo on 21 February 2009, 20:22
There not baffles mate, there little cell's of (usually) platinum which can burn out and block up.

Just for reference this is a C+P from milltek FAQ's on there website:

Aftersales Care

Q.   Is my exhaust system covered by a guarantee or warranty?
A.   As long as you are the original purchaser, cat-back exhaust systems are covered by a lifetime anti-corrosion and manufacturing defect warranty and hi-flow sports catalysts and downpipes are covered by a 2 year or 80,000km warranty. We do not cover against any modifications made to our product after it has left our factory and also not for unusual use of the parts - for example, the use of Nitrous Oxide (NOS), damage caused by going over a speed bump too fast etc. Our warranties are offered on the understanding that the cars power maybe increased by up to 33% from it's original specification. Modifications made to increase the power beyond this will render the warranty void.

We pride ourselves on our after-sales support and customer service and will look into each case on an individual basis.

All warranty cases should be dealt with by the Milltek appointed distributor from whom you purchased the system. However, if you are dissatisfied with the service of your distributor in response to your claim, you can contact us directly by emailing us at techsupport@millteksport.com.

Simply because they are a wear and tear part. Can't see anyone offering lifetime warranty on a CAT.

No worries   good to know anyway!

Just to add, the exhaust was sounding nice today, think it was a bit of a shock going from stock to full system. Still got a bit of a vibration through the drivers seat like a body massager  :smug: when pulling away i;e low rev's but will get them to look into that.

Seem's to pull better, but again hard to tell because of the noise and it's been a nice cool dry day today so air will be spot on.

Looking forward to getting the ko3s on and hopefully remove my existing remap and get the ko3s/AGU combo by R-tech!!!!

not even miltek would offer a lifetime warranty on their cats as i think other manufacturers dont either lifetime would apply to the system (ie cat back) i may be wrong? as said tho wear and tear else people would claim for clutches and brake pads etc for example
