Title: How do you mount amps behind the rear quarter cards of a mk2 ??
Post by: AZIM on 19 February 2009, 18:21
Ive got a couple of large amps as part of my ice install .

They are the old Kicker zr type ,which when fitted with a link and endcaps
can make two amps look like one .

I originally thought id fit them on a false floor at the back of the boot ,thought
it look real cool .

To my dissapointment the amps when linked together are 2 inches wider than the
false floor.
Although i like the way the amps look in this position and i might still try and fit them
there .

I thought id explore the avenue of the amps fitted behind the rear quarter cards in the mk2 .
This would certainly make the boot look a little cleaner (but not as cool).

Im looking for some guidance on how to make the framework to allow the amps fto fit securely in that position .

Some one please enlighten me .

Suppose when the car is moving it cools the outer pannel.

How do you plan on cooling them?

mounting them like that will cause tem to overheat.

could always mount a pc fan, get them in maplin and it is possible to link them to the remote cable from the amps so wen the amp comes on so does the fan. the fans run on 12v too so real handy

Note on the fan idea - they run on 12v - 14v in car might accelerate wear a little. A resistor can be deployed to fix. I would also think about either fusing or adding a relay in  - I dont know what a standard H/U will deal with current wise on the remote line. Prob not a problem on 1 or 2 fans, but better safe than sorry .

no, the idea is that the remote line commands the fans to turn on, u need to run a power cable to them still.

how would do that without a relay?
