Title: Alloy repair before refurb?
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 19 February 2009, 00:40
So I want to get my alloys refurbished around April time, found a guy that'll do it £55 per wheel. However on one or two locations of 2 wheels, there s literally a chunk missing from the alloy. Now is it possible to get this filled back in somehow before the refurb goes ahead?

Yes, you can get it built up with weld and then machine the rim back.

Surely a decent refurb should include sorting out any scrapes and missing material, especially for £55 a wheel?

I was thinking that...a decent refurb should include any small defects like these!!

Any decent engineering shop should be able to help, you will need the tyre / s removed first.

I thought I might, when I do decide to get this done then, I'll have to get a set of steelies or something to tide me over. Cheers chap.

Also worth bearing in mind that some alloy wheel refurb companys will repair it at the same time as the refurb.

About the size of a 20p in width, and 2 - 3mm in deep. :)

get some Liquid Metal, basically a metal filler is wat u require as i found that normal filler will sand quicker than the surrounding alloy, resulting in a dip!

that aint a chunk lol, try something abt the size of £2 coin lol

LOL! Fair enough, I will get a pic tomorrow to show you the extent of the damage, you might change you mind :P I'm in no rush atm, but I want them done so they look MUCH better than they do already, but also if I do come to sell them, they'll be like new.
