My wife mk4 has a very loud clunking noise comming from the right hand wiper when it is on(you don't say).
Any ideas ???
It really pisses me off when i drive it

take it off
sorry no help at all

Could be the start of them failing in which case itcould be the linkage, very common fault

Not sure how easy it is to do yourself when mine went i paid to have it fixed. You will know if it's the linkage at the wipers will start failing intermittently.

Linkage cant be that much to replace?

well yeah i guess

try getting some spray grease with one of them straws on and pop the bonnet open you should see the wiper control arms under the black plastic just spray them at the joints see if that frees them up.
failing that it could be down to the wipers them selfs iam a sucker for being a tight ass and just buy cheap wipers (aero ones) off ebay and the drivers side allways bumps skids honks all the way up and down the window drives me mad and you can never see out the thing i was ready for pulling it off in a basil fawlty way and beating the car with it. it even got to the point where i thought my screen was deformed lol
so i brought some good ones decent brand and there fine no problems oh and ive found that vw aproved screen wash helps insted of that blue stuff thats £1 for 10ltr
hopes this gives you a few things to go at

Hi mate,
Linkage is about £40 from VW. Did mine last month.
Have you checked too make sure the wiper isn't going over to far and hitting the rubber on the side of the window. Mine did this. Put the wipers on intermittent and stand outside the car, looking carefully at where they stop before returning, you have to be quick. If it doesn't do it on intermittent try the same on full whack as at speed they travel a little more due to a bit of flex in the arm/blade.
If it is you need to take the wiper arm off and you will see a spline head. Move it back a few notches to stop it going over so far.
