Hi Guys,
Connected a stereo for the first time ever, and sound only comes out of the two speakers nearest the windscreen but nothing out of either footwell speakers.
The grilles are cracked but weird that neither work. Can anyone offer any insight?

Im pretty sure the door card speakers run off the dash oness. Check that they are connected etc. Ben

Nothing to do with the speakers, but if you want new grilles you can buy them from the dealers for £9 each. Not £30 for second hand ones like they seem to make on ebay.

Know exactly what you mean about the ebay prices.
Although if you're being seriously anal, the new ones you get from dealers have a different symbol on the middle of the grille compared with the original ones fitted to mk2s
Slightly unrelated but what are the footwell speakers like in terms of sound quality etc?

mine were both poop
so i bought some nice pioneer ones for all 6 speakers
loverly quality
worth upgrading

They are bound to sound poor if they are 20 years old.
I'm looking for some custom fit components to fit in mine. Tweeters in the dash and mids in the doors. Anyone got any good recomendations?

i put pioneer 10cm 2 way in the dash (it does need modifying)
pioneer 2 way in the door pods
a set of poineer 3 way 6x9's in the shelf
and an active sub in the boot again from pioneer :)
sounds really good
