Title: clunking noise after fitting coilovers
Post by: mk3 tdi on 16 February 2009, 23:34
i ve just fitted a set of coilovers i got cheap - used - and they are making a clunking noise when i go over bumps, i think its the front, i dont think its the coilovers as i know the guy who i got them off and he said money back if they are faulty -

is there other things i can check ?

exhaust knocking on rear beam? sump hitting the ground? wheels catching arches?  how low have you set it?

Also worth checking your top mounts.

I had this, and it was my top mounts, best thing to do I found to be sure where the noise was coming from is go over some speed bumps and see if you can listen out for where it's coming from.

I found when my front end went up the speed bump and don't, it was more noticeable from the front :)

i ve got it sorted - the mechanic had left the top mounts loose on the front - hope it didnt cause no damage :undecided:
