Title: What Am I doing wrong?
Post by: LPG'd Oakie on 04 July 2004, 01:05
Ok,

Just replaced the hall sender on a 16v, but now the dam thing won't start!

So, to check the timing......

Align the mark on the crank pully with the mark on the case, which gives you top dead centre on No.1 Cylinder.

Then Check dizzy cap to ensure that the leads are in order....1,3,4,2

I have a spark, Fuel etc.

The only slight problem is that one of the leads has a crank in it, which i suppose could earth thru, causing one cylinder not to fire, but it won't even attempt to catch

Any ideas folks?

Sounds like the distributer is working if you have a spark. When you time the engine make sure it is tdc firing no1 and the rotor arm is pointing to no1 ht lead. You should be able to get the ign timing close enough to run and then set timing with a strobe.
