My fuel cap won't open. When I press the release button I can hear that the mechanism works, but the fuel door doesn't open. Is there any way to open it manually?
-
maybe get some1 to press the button and at the same time try to 'lightly pursuade' the cap to open?just be careful not to damage the paint use plenty of rags to protect the paint as it cud be a sticky locking mechanism?esp with all this bad/cold weather? if it is just lubricate up once opened with some wd40 then some oil?and test it whilst the cap is open if its not that then sorry i have no idea

you're going to have to pull back the boot carpet on the fuel filler side
not sure if you have to remove the parcel shelf support :undecided:

I did a how to over on ukmkiv.net a while ago, still works now.

sounds like the linkage arm has come off/snapped quite easy when you take the carpet out the way,
-
you need a new release button if you can hear mechanism working i had the same thing easy to fix

is this a common fault ?

It happened after I got the car from a paint work. They hadn't put the fuel cap right and it was quite stiff. It is already fixed.
