Title: Is this a good deal
Post by: walker on 15 February 2009, 09:51
Just registered and this is my first post, so if its in the wrong place im sorry in advance!

I have just bought a mkv golf gti, 07 plate, 15k miles with

DSG
cruise control
sun roof
6 disc cd changer (under arm rest)
parking sensors
rain sensors and
18" monza alloys.

not sure if any of the above come as standard as this is my first vw. I paid 15K for the car and was interseted to see
what everyone thinks.

ts a nice spec mate, did you buy from a dealer? does it have xenons, RCD510? there are some bargains to be had like on Pistonheads where there are some going as cheap as 12.5K with low mileagae etc

the main thing is if your happy with it then dont worry what others think!

Well you've asked a question and if you want my honest opinion then I'd say no, you've been ripped off unless its an Ed30.  Saying that, I get the impression that GTIs/R32s are more expensive in Scotland after reading about another forum member - No Golf Clubs At All - having difficulty buying an R32 at what are market rates in England.

I have noticed that too, when looking on vw website cars further south were about 1.5K cheaper. Its done now and cant wait to pick up the car, I just wanted to gauge if it was good deal or not.  I test drove the car last wend and fell in love with it, it was am impulse buy! as soon as test drive was over i knew i wanted the car.

yeah bought from dealer, no xenons, is RCD510 the sat nav unit?

Some 2008 r32s going for £17k. Motorpoint were selling new gtis circa £16k but we all know about MP  for the spec I think you have done not too badly but we get the p1sh ripped out of us up here. Have a mate who went to the local Porsche stealer to buy a 911 dealer would not move on £41k.... So he went online and bought almost the same car in London and saved £10,000!! The car was delivered free of charge too

I would love to do some kind of smart statistical charty thing to show the premium we pay as a result of living north of the haggis and heather line. It's all about competition I guess

Aberdeen has to be one of the most expensive areas to buy a car! looked in Dundee, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow but opted for the Aberdeen dealer. Close and more convenient.

Aberdeen has its own micro economic climate, prices are always higher here.
But only on purchases not on trade in price, they match elsewhere

Mate - was this the blue one at Specialist cars?

If so, then it does have xenons! Or it did 4 weeks ago!!!!!!

I drove it about a month ago, - before buying mine from Town and County across the road.

TBH, I didnt buy it cause I thought it was much too expensive. Also, I thought it felt pretty tired for a car that had done 17000 miles.

I bought a 57 plate in black with 7000 miles for less money, feels like brand new from a dealers about 800yards away!!

I dont think you got the best deal if you paid £15k - I was offered it for roughly £14500 but still turned them down because I felt the car was a bit rough.

Sorry, just letting you know my thoughts!!! One good thing is that the car is fully loaded. The DSG was nice!! Mines a manual.

Hope you got them to change the alloy on the NSR - it has a bad scape in it, I would insist it is replaced.

Gotta say, I wasnt impressed with their service. They almost acted like they were doing me a favour in selling me the car - infact, the dealer attitude sealed the deal in making me buy elsewhere!!!!!

Dealers = scum of the earth

You always get humped in Aberdeen on car prices.  They think they can charge what they want because Aberdeen is cut off from the mass market further south.

I bought my car from a dealership in Liverpool!

Yup Speccy cars prices are high cos of the oil and cos of the distance to anywhere else.

If it makes you feel any better I paid about the same for an 05 plate with 31k miles 6 months ago

From what I've seen on here their servicing charges are extortionate too...

And I did exactly the same as you which is why I ended up paying over the odds.  Didn't really plan on buying the car but after the test drive I couldn't say no!  Don't regret it either

thanks for all the replys folks.

andy
yeah it is the blue one from specialist cars!! it does have xenons (only found out when i picked it up)  paid 15k because they added 1k to my trade in. So you could look at it as i paid 13.5k for the car but then i took out gap insurance and supaguard. The alloys were all replaced with spankin new 18"ers.

Really happy with the car been blasting around (within speedlimit)town with it trying to get used to the auto box!

Nice one fellah!
You did well to get new alloys out of them - makes the deal a lot sweeter! I thought it had xenons  :smug:
If you see a black one on yr travels with a private plate starting "T15" give me a flash!!!
