Hi fellas,
just wondering, can dealers charge me any price they want for certain optional extras or is there a fixed price? cos i bought colour coded parking sensors the other day and i was charged 385, but after reading what other members of this forum paid it seems like i've been charged 100 pounds more than anyone else :(

dealer fit extras have an rrp, but are open to negotiation

There is a an option booklet. The one I have may be out of date it says effective from 08.02.2008. Rear parking sensors are £345.00 fitted. They are listedin the Accesories Packs section on page 10. But I would guess you would not find a mk5 one at a dealers these days as a result of the new model. It also states cruise control is available to retrofit for £150.

Parking sensors were £315 if factory-fitted, so a little more than that isn't too bad.

In my experience it is massively more difficult to get money off any retro-fitted extras from the dealers. From new, the lure of the potential sale commission is usually enough to bargain you some reduced or even free extras. Unfortunately, having things retro-fitted is just adding a luxury for you - therefore you end up having to pay for it. FWIW i paid pretty much the same as u, i cant remember how much now exactly but it was definately in that region.

Would cost more than the retro-fit dealer price to have them colour coded.
Service Dept would charge for the fitting and Paint Shop would charge separately for the painting.
Way of the world these days - each charging their bit
