what do you mean correct bass box? you mean one that will fit? if so then go out with a tape measure and hey presto you know how big to make it! (and slow down your car by a couple of seconds and reduce mpg )

are you wanting a box for spl or do you want to make a box for a particular sub
if you want a box for spl you need to find the vehicles resonance and build a ported box tuned to around 4-5 frequencies below the cars tuning
mk3 golfs resonance is 53hz so you would need a box tuned to 47/48hz
you need to tune it lower to allow for impedance rise in the box
if you want a box for a particular sub for music then build it to the subs thiele small parameters
if you want to have a go try this program
http://reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html
you need to add in the box size details for your sub in the red areas
and this will in turn calculate the required port length and gives you the tuning on the bottom line
